When No One is Watching

Most take this phrase as something that connotes a time when people do bad things. I want to ponder our creative inspired side of us. In this time where ‘content creation’ has become an engine that demands more and more — one can begin to feel trapped in a cycle that can become a type of ‘master’ that controls us. I wonder sometimes, “Why do I write these daily devotionals if no one reads them?” Because there is something inside me that propels me to write about the things of God and the spiritual life. I’ve been doing that for many many years — long before anyone read anything I wrote.

Why do you do what you do? Is it just for the money? Or is there a deeper purpose? What are the reasons that resonate in your soul of why you do what you do? Unfortunately for many they ONLY do what they have to to survive. I understand that — I’ve been there. But those times the Holy Spirit had to teach me that there was MORE than just the … job. There were divine appointments He had set up for me throughout the day. It took me awhile to begin to recognize them. Maybe you’re working towards something that will allow you to do what you love and feel you’ve been created to do. Obviously that is the desired type of work we all should be pursuing. But for many of us it takes awhile to figure that out (points at myself). If you didn’t have anyone to watch you — what would you create? What would you produce? What would you produce even if you wouldn’t be getting paid for it? Producing the things that just bring you joy and fulfillment. Doing those things that are  moving us towards the things we were created to do.

The enemy wants to trap you to make you feel like you HAVE TO work in something you don’t enjoy, that work is punishment. But with Jesus as your ‘work-buddy’ He can show you all sorts of things that can propel you to His purposes. He also can help you with all those negative emotions that work drudgery can create. One of the more difficult things to do is to pray for the ones at your work which make your life miserable. But it will help you to have the proper perspective and teach you how to use your shield of faith (Eph 6 / spiritual armor). So many Holy Spirit lessons I’m learning have to do with me having the proper perspective, which obviously is His perspective. Sometimes I’m a slow learner and I have to repeat a lesson more than once. God is ever patient with me.

In this time the enemy works very hard at making it difficult for the saints of God to survive and thrive. The enemies of God work to nullify the work of our hands and minds. We do have an enemy that hates us. So we must continue to work at being that person the Father had in His mind when He created us. So when you’re all alone today — work at being the person He wants you to be. Do the things that bring honor and love in your life. Make a mental note to ‘walk with Him’ today. Always be listening .. for His still small Voice.
