Time

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in it will die in like manner; but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will never be dismayed. Isaiah 51:6. (For all you Gaia – Mother Earth worshippers out there)

For a thousand years in your sight

are but as yesterday when it is past,

or as a watch in the night. Psalms 90:4

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8

A little math for perspective.

1000years=1 day / 4.2 days=1 second / 40days=9.5 seconds

1 Year with GOD could equal 365,000 years on earth.

70 years=1hr 41min

Questions:

How long was Moses on the mountain with God? 40days? How long did it seem to Moses? When we encounter God is there a time warp? Are there several theories about the idea of ‘time’? What exactly is ‘time’? Can it be bent? Slowed down? Sped up? Reversed?

At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,

“Sun, stand still at Gibeon,

and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”

And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,

until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.

Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel. Joshua 10:12-13. (Do you know that the math for this event must be included in cosmological calculations?)

And Isaiah said, “This shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?” And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow to lengthen ten steps. Rather let the shadow go back ten steps.” And Isaiah the prophet called to the Lord, and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz. 2 Kings 20:9-11

What exactly caused the shadow to reverse? Was it time itself or something else?

How much ‘time’ do you have left? Years, months, days, minutes?

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:19-21

When God tells us to ‘number our days’ what do you think He is trying to get us to understand?

Time most likely isn’t what we generally perceive it to be. And I believe God is not limited by ‘time’ as He is Omnipresent. Running towards God you might just find more time. And running away from God you might just lose time.

Are you just waiting for the rapture? Are you just sitting idle waiting for Him to come get you?

Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2

Read Jesus’ parable of the talents. (Matthew 25) Which one was just sitting waiting for his master’s return? And what were the other ones doing?

May Jesus find you faithful when He comes.

What is your most important time? When should I be engaging God?

Now.
