Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
This time of year can be increasingly difficult for many people. The phrase “The light at the end of the tunnel” comes to mind. For many they will say they can’t even see it. Yet we have a Savior who actually IS that light. To see it we must turn our face towards Him continually, for He is shining brightly no matter the circumstances happening around us, we just have to keep looking to Him.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
He IS our hope. He is our Source. He is our ALL in ALL. This isn’t an intellectual pursuit …it is a spiritual Truth that can fill your soul with all comfort. Jesus ACTUALLY is our Light! He is the One who will bring His family ALL together … forever.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:1-3
Jesus then goes on to talk about the Holy Spirit and His work and abiding presence with us. It is through the Holy Spirit that we can experience the Presence of Jesus and hear His words to us. This is a discipline that must be learned and is most crucial to a sincere disciple of Christ. We must learn to hear the ‘still small voice’ of the Holy Spirit within our minds and hearts. In the darkest prison cell, isolated from everyone and everything else a disciple of Jesus can experience Him through the abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit, which confirms what Jesus has said to us.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5b
If Jesus is the Lord of your life — HE IS WITH YOU! Don’t believe the nagging voices of the enemies of God in your mind. Invite the Holy Spirit to do what He wants to do in you and around you. Turn your heart to Him in an honest plea for His Presence. He IS your Hope. He IS to be your comfort in the darkest places of your soul. Can you allow Him to be there in your secret places of your soul?
Today is the day to keep your focus on Him. Be alert and aware of His divine Presence and appointments He has set for you today.
