O God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1
I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. Psalm 84:2
Do you take long walks with the Lord? Lately I’ve been increasing the time I walk with Him VERY early first thing in the morning. I crave that time with Him before the sunrise. Worshipful prayer and expressing my love and desire for Him fills the time – and the distance seems short to my soul, even though my body is feeling the increased distance in mileage daily. I so want to keep that communion going throughout my day. I crave that day we shall be together forever all the more. In the present the Holy Spirit keeps me company and advises me along the way. I think about all the long walks Jesus had with His disciples, talking as they walked, and discussing the Father and His Kingdom. When you walk long distances with someone – you get to know them. Maybe we need to return to the simple ways. Walking with someone. Fasting and pointing our focus on Him more and honing our wills. Discussing the deeper things of God as we walk together. Jesus and the disciples walked everywhere they went with Him. We now sit and ride too much. We need to go back to walking with Him. And walking with others. Maybe instead of coffee dates we should have walking dates?
All I know is how much my walks with Him have changed my life, and I only crave Him more because of them. Just Him and me – out walking and talking, worshipping, being grateful for all His is doing in my life. The more I spend time with Him the more I want to spend more time with Him. It seems this ‘walking’ with Him thing is increasing my spiritual hunger for Him. I’ve done this more in the last ten years – and I can see how it has drastically changed my spiritual life. Walking with Him is good for my spirit, soul, and body.
So take a chance and go on a walk with Him today. Don’t go with complaints, but go with the expectation of conversation and revelation. Walk with praise on your lips. Whisper your thanks to Him for ALL He has given you. Be silent and wait for His voice while you walk together. Be ready to receive the lessons He has for you. Often as I walk through the fields He reminds me of one of His parables and teaching, and it becomes deeper within my soul.
How much is He a priority in your life? Can you measure it by the amount of time you spend with Him? How much does your mind think about Him?
As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. Luke 24:14-15
Go walk with Him.
