It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. Proverbs 25:2
But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase. Daniel 12:4
You have heard; now see all this; and will you not declare it? From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known. Isaiah 48:6
He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him. Daniel 2:21-22
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jeremiah 33:3
To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. Ephesians 3:8-10
At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; Matthew 11:25
What exactly is the ‘Word’? (Hint: John 1:1) Is the Bible the ‘Word’. Yes – to the degree the finite printed words allow. Does the Bible tell us EVERYTHING Jesus has done? (Hint: John 21:25) Does the Bible explain ALL mysteries and reveal ALL hidden things? Does the Bible explain everything in God’s Creation and Kingdom? Are there things we are still to ‘search out’… with Him? Have you read the Bible over and over trying to gain understanding? Have you read it while asking the Holy Spirit to explain things to you? Does the Holy Spirit bring ‘revelation’ to your mind and heart from the scriptures, as He has done with all those that genuinely seek Him through them? Does He bring you ‘understanding’ for the current issues and situations you are faced with … daily?
Immaturity thinks that what is learned is ‘complete’. Maturity knows there is always ‘more’ to learn and understand. Pride thinks it understands completely. Humility knows it is VERY limited in understanding. Are there ‘levels’ of understanding? Does life experience teach you greater depth of understanding… because of trials? Do you genuinely desire to ‘know’ God in greater ways? Beware of those who speak out of their ‘pride’. Beware of those who say they have the ‘complete’ revelation of something.
The more someone actually knows and truly learns … the more that they realize they don’t know. God’s creation and knowledge is beyond our finite comprehension. What lies beyond the subatomic or what is beyond the ‘end’ or edge of the universe? What exactly are the actual basic building blocks of the universe. These are mysteries still unknown to us. We can speculate and experiment to try to figure things out – but we have yet to find the ‘end of things’. God had a few questions of Job on this matter. (read Job 40-41)
So why do I even think about such things? Why this devotional? How much do you seek out God? How much do you want to ‘know’ Him? How much do you think you understand about God and His creation? How much do you take ‘pride’ in your ‘knowledge’? What does it really mean to have a relationship with the Creator and His Son Jesus? What does it really mean to ‘learn’ from the Holy Spirit? Who actually can ‘know’ God? To what degree? Can God trust you with His secrets? How much can you be trusted with? How much do you think ‘you already know’? What mysteries or secrets has the Holy Spirit revealed to you? How much has He revealed about the mystery that is … you? Or are you just happy and content with “religious rituals”?
As for me … the pursuit of God and His kingdom … continues! I WANT to know God deeper!
