But I am afflicted and in pain;
let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify Him with thanksgiving. Psalm 69:28-30
Take the time to read all of Romans chapter 8. Our pain is temporary and handled through the knowledge of what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do for us. Allow the Holy Spirit to highlight the words to your spirit and mind for understanding. If needed, have it audibly read to you so you can listen with eyes closed focusing on the words. Our eternal hope should be ever fixed in our minds by the Spirit of God. Are you listening to Him? Is He sharing the great hope (God’s hope) with you? Are you asking Jesus to help you with your physical pain? Can you praise Him in the midst of the pain?
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
Are you encouraged by the Words spoken by the Holy Spirit to you? Is God bringing you comfort in your time of pain?
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Are you able to share with others honestly and vulnerably about the pain and affliction you are currently in? Are you sharing with others how God is helping you through the pain? So we have some pretty simple instructions when we are in pain. First be thankful and praise Him for His goodness and kindness to you. Then share comfort and encouragement in God with others all the while you are going through affliction yourself. Does this mean you must share ALL about the pain you are currently under? No. Only share what He instructs you to share and focus on the encouragement you can give others. Our focus should still be on how we can be His ambassadors at ALL times while we are still in this shell of a body. If you are alone and in pain – who is He telling you to pray for? Ask Him how and what to pray for others. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus on Him through the pain and what He wants you to do for others.
Whether it be physical pain, emotional turmoil, depression, anxiety, mental fog, or spiritual warfare – our goal should be to continually focus on Jesus. Listening very closely to His personal instructions to us while we are in the ‘thick’ of the trial. Obeying immediately the smallest prompts and instructions of the Holy Spirit. Open your heart as wide as possible to His love for you.
Prayer: Jesus, I love you with all that I can. Thank you for being with me in my current pain and affliction. I give you all of my attention. Lord – who should I pray for? Who should I encourage? Lord Jesus how do you want me to walk through this time with You? What are your instructions to me? Thank you for your comfort, thank you for your healing. Holy Spirit fill my body with your healing processes, clear my mind from all the wrong thoughts, anxieties and worries. Lord I WILL focus on you. Have your way in me.
