Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way that I ought to proclaim it.
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Colossians 4:2-6
“Make the most of the opportunity.” All we have is today, yesterday is gone, tomorrow is uncertain. Redeeming the time. Pressing into the moment. Being Present with Him. Listening for His voice with patience and quietness of mind. Do you pray with attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving? How do conduct yourself while in public and with strangers? Do you have His grace with everyone? Do you listen to the Spirit of God on how you are to respond? Is the fruit of ‘self-control’ of the Holy Spirit causing you to surrender your ‘will’ and choices to His suggestions and instructions, moment by moment? “Not my will, but Your will Father.” Are your ‘words’ seasoned to be acceptable to someone actually listening, that your words might actually point them to Jesus?
Here you are reading this … so you have today, this moment to ‘invest’ with Him, so what is the Spirit of God pressing on your heart? Are you listening for Him? What really is important in the scheme of eternity? How short do our earthly lives look in comparison to eternity?
Lord, let me know my end,
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.
Behold, You have made my days like hand widths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight;
Certainly all mankind standing is a mere breath. Selah
Certainly every person walks around as a fleeting shadow;
They certainly make an uproar for nothing;
He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them. Psalm 39:4-6
Lord, what is man, that You look after him?
Or a son of man, that You think of him?
Man is like the breath;
His days are like a passing shadow. Psalm 144:3-4
It is obvious to anyone who has lived for several decades that the current season of time is getting more difficult to live in. All the more reason to build yourselves up in your faith and relationship with Him. None of us know when we will surrender our lives. So many it catches them unaware and unready to be thrust into eternity. This should not be so with the disciples of Jesus. You should be looking to Him EVERYDAY for His instructions and guidance through the Holy Spirit, very aware of the spiritual forces that are opposed to you and looking to ensnare you with their lies and manipulation. Are you determined to ‘walk with Him’ today? Are you pressing into the ‘mark’ He has set for you today? Don’t know? Have you asked Him directly? Are you being bold and asking Him the dangerous questions? Are you actually listening for His answers to you? Is He directing to you forgive? Is He asking you to allow Him to ‘clean up’ deep areas in your soul? Are you finally ready to say “Yes” to Him?
Father Your will be done in my life, I surrender to You. Come Lord Jesus and speak to me. Holy Spirit guide me in the way YOU would have me go.
