The wrong kind of fear.

The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. Proverbs 29:25

fear not, for I am with you;
    be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
    I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. Luke 12:4

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

Fear is VERY human. It is a constant irritant and struggle within our lives. We first have to admit that to ourselves. What is the solution? Our trust in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We must utilize the faith He has placed in our hearts and trust Him for whatever may come our way. If we believe His words in what He has prepared for us … for eternity, then we can confidently obey the Spirit of God in whatever He asks us to do. Fear is often a daily struggle for some, is it for you? If it is, don’t deny it, but confess it to Him every time is seems to rise in your mind and heart.

We have to be careful not to try to meet our fear with our pride. Our pride will be the thing the enemy uses to show us how out of control we really are and that we are nothing but a liar. We must approach God with humility and surrender if we are to be victorious over our fears.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:6-8

Do you fear the future? Do you fear not having enough money? Do you fear your own lack of ability to trust the Lord? Do you fear things beyond your ability to control? Do you fear your ability to remain faithful to Him in hard challenges? Do you fear that the Lord will take things from you that you can’t stomach the thought of losing? Do you fear for your physical health?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
    and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Can you recognize the fear within you? Are your fears effecting your decisions? Are your fears effecting your relationships? Are your fears effecting your job / work? Are your fears paralyzing you from moving forward in your life?

So, what is the solution?

Jesus.

Trust and listen to the ‘gift’ Jesus gave to you when you accepted Him as your ‘Savior’. What is this ‘gift’?

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:21-22

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26

This IS the most important relationship that can teach you and help how to conquer your fear(s). Are you learning to listen to the Holy Spirit? Can you identify His voice within you? This IS how one begins to spiritually mature over fear. Knowing His voice and following Him in what He tells you to do is the BEST thing you can do in conquering your fear. But it most likely will take daily practice to learn how to do this well.

Lord Jesus… I surrender ALL my fears to YOU! Guide me in the way You want me to go! I trust you Lord!

  1. Thanks Joseph,
    This lesson spoke to me specifically. As I get older the responsibility of continuing to provide for my family generates fear with me. The fear of having to, one day, give up the things I’ve worked so hard to achieve or to acquire. The big house, the expensive hobbies. With the ongoing uncertainty of the next self-serving administration setting on our horizon.
    So today I’m praying and setting my mind on Jesus, asking to hear from the Holy Spirit. How will we know the mind of God unless we listen?
