Spiritual Knowledge

For I would have you know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel which was preached by me is not of human invention.  For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11-12 NAS

Spiritual knowledge is given (placed within us) by God NOT learned from human teachers.

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 16:17-19 NAS

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you. John 14:26

Does having a seminary degree give you spiritual knowledge? Do long hours of study give you spiritual revelation? If that were so the Pharisees would have recognized who Jesus was. How is it different today? Will sitting through Sunday services week after week give you spiritual knowledge? Then what is the real purpose of coming together as a Body? Is it the theatrical performance of the “worship” platform team? Or the latest “news” of the events happening at the facility? Or the ‘sermonette’ / lecture given by the lead ‘teacher’ / pastor of the week? Or is the meeting really to be about everyone encouraging one another and building one another up instead of just the sermon? How about testimonies of Jesus and the Holy Spirit working through us? Him using our broken lives to reach others about His grace and love? How about prayer for one another?

So what really is needed to receive spiritual revelation? Meeting Him. Often those ‘meetings’ in our life begin with having a personal ‘encounter’ with Jesus. Then the most common spiritual meeting then is with the Holy Spirit – just as Jesus said in John 14:26. Have you learned to recognize those times? Have you learned to discern His ‘still small voice’ within your mind? Have you learned to recognize His Words spoken directly to your inner being (heart and mind)? Isn’t that the way we are given faith by the Lord?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the (rhema) word of Christ. Romans 10:17

I assume you know the difference between the Greek words logos and rhema which are translated ‘Word’. The rhema Word is the Holy Spirit speaking the Word directly to you heart and spirit. This ‘Word’ can often bypass the mind in the beginning and gives you spiritual understanding. Your mind will eventually ‘catch up’ as the Holy Spirit explains the spiritual mystery to you … giving you mental understanding. Are you learning directly from the Holy Spirit or does He still have to use other sources to speak through to you? In your prayer times do you converse with Him? Do you hear or recognize His responses to you? Are you writing down any of the things He says to you?

So what really in important in spiritual terms of your eternal life and spiritual growth? Listening to another sermon? Attending another Bible study? Or having daily meetings with the Holy Spirit? Are you ready to listen to Him at every point in your day? Are you even listening for Him?

These spiritual ‘encounters’ with the Lord are the MOST important times in your life. I call them ‘divine encounters’. These encounters when recognized should be the most important time of your day – so give them the highest importance and don’t cut them short. Don’t be too busy when He speaks to you. Eternal rewards are stored up from us being obedient to His instructions and directions.

What have you done lately that He asked you to do?

  1. As I grow and mature, stumble and fall, arise and become strengthened, I can look back on the experience, grateful for it all, good and bad.
I can see how the Lord has been able to get through to me more and more. I do truly love my times with the Lord and find the need for greater discipline to carve out more.
It has not happened overnight. This is and has been a long ongoing process that I cherish

  2. Before you think you don’t need the Bible or studying the scriptures – think again. The Holy Spirit will ALWAYS lead you back to the Bible for conformation and further understanding. The best understanding of the Word is asking the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you are reading. Read it with Him.
