I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you’ve picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one—baby’s milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong. Hebrews 5:11-14
What are the causes of building a habit of ‘not listening’? Stubbornness. Pride. Fear. Lust. Apathy. Distraction. (See the list in Galatians 5:19-21) Are you still relying and holding onto past wrong information (tradition). But what do I believe really is the deepest main reason? It is our dismissal of the voice of the Holy Spirit. Because the voice of the Holy Spirit brings stinging conviction to our very core and our immediate response is usually deflection away from ourselves through excuses towards someone or something else. So, we hold onto justifications that we are correct and right rather than admit the truth of what the Holy Spirit is saying to our inner heart and the conviction that comes with those truths – that need to be confronted within us.
What allows us to actually receive the weightier aspects of spiritual truth? Surrender and acceptance to what the Holy Spirit is exposing in us … and dealing with those issues (sin and iniquities). When one begins to surrender to the Holy Spirit as a matter of daily discipline and face God and His love, and ask Him what they need to do… then trust begins to build in both directions. We can’t handle greater spiritual truth if we don’t first practice and believe the ‘milk’ of the Word and act in trust to that Word.
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? 1 Corinthians 3:1-4
Which is more important to you – Truth or comfort? Which do you seek more? Are you willing to give up comfort for greater truth? Are you willing to admit you are wrong? Are you willing to surrender fully to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to expose EVERYTHING that needs changing within you? Are you willing to suffer and be persecuted for the truth? Do you crave the truth that much? How much of your life is in pursuit of greater comfort rather than truth? How much of our efforts are to obtain greater comforts?
Most of our issues stem from one thing. It is our inability to accept God’s love for us personally at our deepest core level. Because… God’s love exposes everything that it is not. And we don’t like to be exposed as …lacking, imperfect, broken, and needy. Which really means we NEED Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit at the VERY core of our lives … daily. And admit that we haven’t ‘arrived’ and are ‘immature’ and need to be convicted by His Rhema Word (via the voice of the Holy Spirit) to our hearts … regularly.
Do you want greater truth and spiritual revelation, or do you just want greater physical earthly comfort and security? The two rarely coincide.
Be brave and step onto the ‘surrender’ square before God daily and ask for His instruction and wisdom.
Then listen. Really listen.
1 thought on “Why am I not receiving deeper spiritual revelation?”
…guilty! 😞
