But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8
For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night. Psalm 90:4
Just for a moment consider and ponder this first verse as a math formula.
1000 years = 1 day
Reduced / 4.2 days = 1 second
40 days = 9.52 seconds (how long was Moses on mount Sinai? How long did it seem to Moses?)
70 years = 1 Hour 41 minutes
1 year with God in heaven = 365,000 years / earth time.
Now looking at the verse in Psalms the time could even be more bent as a ‘watch in the night’ is less than a full 24 hours. The concept here which seems obvious to me … is that with God the Greek concept of ‘time’ (Chronos) is not the way we think it is. Time is different in God’s heavenly realm. Many who have experienced an NDE (Near death experience) have also tried to explain this ‘phenomena’.
I have on occasion asked the Holy Spirit to give me a ‘taste’ of understanding eternity. This request has had me have to reevaluate many of my own beliefs on how time works. And what is so different about time …at His throne.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8
From a different perspective is ‘time’ even at God’s Throne? Or is all of time ‘seen’ – beginning to end from His throne? So… God’s Word is ‘timeless’? God ‘sees’ the future … done.
In a ‘glorified’ resurrected body (Like Jesus had after the 3 days in the tomb and He rose from the dead) – what capabilities will it have? Time will no longer have an effect on our resurrected bodies.
Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” John 20:26
Moving through matter… and also time?
In our current limited space and time of our earthly lives … our days are ‘precious’. We need to learn what He has for us here and now.
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16 KJV
Here the Greek word for time is kiaron which means a measure of time; a larger or smaller portion of time; hence, an opportune or seasonable time, followed by an infinitive, with an opportunity to do something. We need to redeem our ‘opportunity’ here and now in this moment and day. The Greek word here for ‘redeeming’ is exagorazomenoi which means to buy up for oneself, for one’s use and where the meaning seems to be to make a wise and sacred use of every opportunity for doing good, so that zeal and well-doing are as it were the purchase-money by which we make the time our own. The opportunity now is kairos— which is each God-given moment—that must be rescued from the evil age. Believers buy up the passing opportunities by walking in wisdom, holiness, and evangelistic urgency. The purchase price is alertness, prayer, and Spirit-filled obedience. Thus, the redeemed become redeemers of time, turning ordinary interactions into eternal investments.
Does the Spirit of God ‘bend’ time around us? There seems to be several examples of that in the Bible. Joshua on the battle field and a sundial moving backwards.
So… if we run towards His throne and God – time slows down? And when we run away from God our time will speed up? Just pondering here.
Father help me to see today as precious and the need to be invested as YOU wish me to do. Help me hear Holy Spirit Your voice within my mind. Jesus help me sit with and in Your ever abiding Presence.

I have spent much time contemplating this topic. To think our loved ones are in Heaven mere minutes before we arrive and accompany them. Awesome to consider.
Love this
