The Timing of God

There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth: A right time for birth and another for death, A right time to plant and another to reap, A right time to kill and another to heal, A right time to destroy and another to construct, A right time to cry and another to laugh, A right time to lament and another to cheer, A right time to make love and another to abstain, A right time to embrace and another to part, A right time to search and another to count your losses, A right time to hold on and another to let go, A right time to rip out and another to mend, A right time to shut up and another to speak up, A right time to love and another to hate, A right time to wage war and another to make peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 MSG

He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” Acts 1:7-8 MSG

The seconds count down to the end of the basketball game and the score is tied, and there are just a ten seconds left, yet the coach has told the team to only take the shot at three seconds left and no sooner. Timing; oh so important as the time runs down. Timing is important with all sorts of things in life.

How often are we shouting at God… “MOVE on our behalf God!!! NOW!!” When God sees all and knows exactly the right time to move on your behalf. In fact — moving you at the wrong time could easily spell disaster when the warfare is especially intense surrounding you. Yet our patience is severely lacking and like a toddler we are throwing a tantrum straight at God. Do you know that the spiritual realm is extremely active and dangerous? Did you know your enemy seeks your destruction? Did you know they are waiting for just the right moment to strike against you? Yet our Helper and Father are fully aware of your situation at all times. Why do we even think He doesn’t see us? He is in fact Jehovah Jireh …the God who ‘sees’. God sees us at every moment, nothing is hidden from Him.

Are you beginning to see how beneficial the fruit of the Holy Spirit of patience is in your life? His fruit of patience enables us to … trust God and His timing. Our humanly generated patience is always lacking in the spiritual realms. It must be HIS patience that keeps us focused on Him to ONLY move when He directs us to do so. We been taught through ‘popular’ spiritual teaching that Jehovah Jireh means God is my provider or provision. While it is translated that way once and means that to an extent — the more proper translation is the ‘God who sees’. God sees our need and will provide in His timing. There is timing is His provision to us. He sees when that provision, word, instruction, gift, and supply is best applied to you for the highest eternal benefit.

making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.

In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, Ephesians 1:9-11

Learning how to apply the spiritual fruit of patience via the instructions of the Holy Spirit is vital to maximizing the plan of God in your life. Patience is very much tied to His salvation in our immediate situation. Faith (another fruit of the Spirit) is part of patience given also by the Holy Spirit. Learning to focus on listening to Him when you feel anxious and distraught becomes a much needed discipline in your life to build trust in Him.

Do you trust His timing in your life? Do you know deep within you that He ‘sees’ you?
