The depths of God.

For God has consigned all to disobedience, that He may have mercy on all.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!

“For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been His counselor?” Romans 11:32-34

But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love
Him”—

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-11

What is the ‘depth of God’? How do you measure the unmeasurable? What does it mean that the Spirit of God searches ‘even the depths of God’?

Biblehub: The Spirit’s searching “even the deep things of God” assures believers that no aspect of divine wisdom remains inaccessible once God chooses to disclose it, yet it simultaneously reminds us that nothing in us remains concealed before Him. This statement is to assure believers that the Spirit delights to unveil truths once hidden, promoting dependence on Him rather than mere academic prowess.

So the Spirit looks for those who are seeking Him diligently. Who can He trust with His knowledge, wisdom, AND secrets? What is our purpose in searching and knowing the “Word” of God? Is it for our own ‘prowess’ that others might see how astute (performance as a ‘good’ Christian) we are? Or is it because you want to truly know God deeper and more intimately in the depths of your heart?

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

How does one accurately ‘handle the word of truth’? How can you do that without an ongoing discussion with the Author / the One who wrote it? Does academia have the answer? How did the original disciples / acquire that knowledge? Are we any different in the way we should attain it?

Are you in the place with Him where the Holy Spirit can reveal this spiritual knowledge? The apostles had the Holy Spirit REVEAL the truth to them. What has the Spirit revealed to you? Are you even asking Him to? Or are you just reading the scriptures out of formula and tradition, for personal ‘study’? What good does your knowledge have without the Holy Spirit?

The King Solomon has this to say…

And I applied my mind to know wisdom and to know insanity and foolishness; I realized that this also is striving after wind. Because in much wisdom there is much grief; and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain. Ecclesiastes 1:17-18

I know those who have great ‘knowledge’. But knowledge without the Spirit of God is … very tiresome and questionable. Who can apply the knowledge they have accumulated wisely? Who can discern the Truth without the Spirit of God?

we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God 1 Corinthians 8:1b-3

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2

This ‘love’ (agape = Fruit of the Spirit of God) isn’t what we usually think of ‘love’. The love of God is a mystery within itself. And that mystery of His love is only revealed to the ‘humble’.

Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the Spirit that He has made to dwell in us”? But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:5-6

Oh Lord I want to really KNOW You! Reveal Yourself also to those I love!
