What is your relationship with the Holy Spirit? How would you describe it? Via text only? Meaning you just get certain ‘feelings’ when you read the Bible … sometimes? Or like a ‘one way’ conversation where certain texts in the Bible jump out at you? Or is it like a real on-going real time conversation between two individuals? How do you think your relationship with the Holy Spirit works exactly? Can you state with certainty what the Holy Spirit last said to you? Can you say what His last instruction was to you? Does He give you directions? Instructions?
Or is the idea of the Holy Spirit just ‘kept’ in the ‘religious’ part of your life from 10am to noon on Sundays? If we would want to please God — what would it take? Faith? Yes …scripture says that — but what kind of faith? Scripture also also says “faith without works in dead” (James 2:14). So what ‘works’ are you suppose to do? Whatever you ‘feel’ like? Or the ‘works’ He is asking you to do? Many do ALL sorts of things in His Name. Will those count for anything eternally with Him? Do you know with certainty what the Holy Spirit is asking you to do — in the small things of your life?
If you truly believe you have a relationship with Him — have you learned to recognize His Voice within your mind? Have you built a filter system in your mind to discern where each of your thoughts come from? (2 Corinthians 10:5) So that you have learned really well when He is “speaking to you” within you? This is a process that must be learned, just like in any relationship where you have to learn to listen to someone. Certainly we know that the demon possessed hear the voices of their tormenters in their minds. We have lots of examples of that. So then … God is not able to speak to us in our minds? When He does …can you clearly recognize it in you? If not .. why not? Or are you just repeating the thoughts out loud that you just heard from an ‘enemy’ of God? Or are you just speaking out of your ‘flesh nature’? Have you learned how to filter your thoughts and discern where they are from …before you speak them out?
Are you asking the Holy Spirit any questions? Do you wait for His answers? Are you asking questions beyond what you want Him to do for you? Would you like a friend who does nothing but asks you to do things for them? “Friends” that only want things from you … is that what you want?
You want real spirituality? That is a developed vibrant intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit where you ‘hang out’ all day together and you converse about everything. When you first get up, then throughout your entire day, till you lay your head on the pillow at night. Where you NEVER feel ‘alone’ again. Where that nagging empty space in your chest / soul is filled with His Presence.
Are you neglecting that kind of relationship with Him? Or are you just giving Him ‘religious’ time with a couple hours a week sitting in a building and or passively listening to a sermon that puts you to sleep. Or are you ‘hearing’ Him throughout your day, everyday, and He is guiding you, teaching you, asking you questions, and telling you what to do — even in the small things? Why the small things? Because He wants to be there with you — helping you learn the importance of EVERYTHING that surrounds you at ALL times.
Begin today. Be determined to press deeply into you relationship with the Holy Spirit — and actually become Spirit led. Listen to Him.
