Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
Obviously, everyone knows the difference between light and darkness IF you have working eyes. But is that ONLY the differentiation the scriptures are talking about here? Is there a spiritual component that being implicated as well? Do a search for ‘light and darkness’ in the scriptures and you will find about 55 references depending on the version you are searching. And obviously ‘light and darkness’ is referred to in a spiritual context in many of the scriptures. In the spiritual realms light and darkness is also very apparent, especially by what ‘resides’ within an individual. What is constituted as ‘light’ in the spiritual realms? Jesus speaks to this issue in Luke 11:33-36. Jesus then goes on to describe that He IS the light.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
And then one is reminded of this other statement Jesus made…
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
The enemies of God also know this and try to deceive us using ‘counterfeit light’.
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14
So how does one truly discern what really is the ‘light’? Does the “Word” reside within you? Do you have the ‘original’ light within you, or are you easily fooled by the ‘artificial’ and ‘counterfeit’ light(s)?
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14
It is VERY important in this age to have a spiritually mature grasp on what is the TRUE ‘light’ and what is counterfeit. Read what Jesus says in Matthew 24:3-31. There will be MANY coming to deceive the ‘elect’ (vs 22). Will you be able to discern the Truth when even the ‘elect’ can be deceived? How well do you know His Voice within you?
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27
What has Jesus asked you personally to give up?
If God took that thing from you tomorrow… would you be okay? If not, you’ve found your identity in it. And if you’ve found your identity in it, then that ‘thing’ has become an idol to you. Idols are NOT ‘light’.
How much are you willing to surrender and humble yourself before Him asking for His light to shine on the darkest corners of your soul? Are you willing to have Him shed His light on things within you that you are secretly keeping hidden from everyone else? That darkness in you can only be conquered by dragging it into His light.
Is your heart truly like David’s in his Psalm 139?
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24
Are you willing to go there… with the Holy Spirit? Asking Him to THAT degree of exposure of your soul and mind?
