Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:16
What do you use your freedom for? Who gave you this freedom? What is real freedom? To do what we wish … for ourselves? To understand the depth of these questions you have to realize the actual reality of the world and dimension you are existing in. If you realize the heart of your Creator you begin to understand that freedom actually is being able recognize who He is and what He does. Then real freedom is being able to have an intimate relationship with Him and discover the purpose for which you were created. Then again, with the gift of ‘free will’ which the Creator gave you, you get to choose freedom or slavery, love or hatred, family or isolation, good or evil. Why do we so willingly submit to slavery? Because it promises the ‘comfort’ of not having to make decisions and choices. Our free will carries a large responsibility. What we choose impacts so many more than just ourselves.
Peter talks about this dangerous position of being able to make choices and those who entice people back into slavery after being set free.
These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.” 2 Peter 2:17-22
So how do we stay ‘free’? By the Holy Spirit. By the Holy Spirit’s guidance. By His truth. By listening to His discernment. By allowing Him to plant His fruit into your life. By walking with Him … throughout your day, and being so attentive to His Voice in your mind, and soul. Do you submit your decisions and choices before Him? Do you ask for His wisdom? Do you wait for His understanding? Or are you quick to decide what your ‘flesh’ wants and move in that direction? Are you still a ‘slave’ to your fleshly nature? Are you a slave to your soul’s passions, emotions, and feelings? Have you learned the fruit of the Spirit of self-control?
Choose freedom. Choose Jesus. Choose His will. Choose His fruit. Choose to listen to the Spirit of God.
In Jesus we find REAL freedom.
