And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold. Mark 4:18-20
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
What is the evidence in your life that will show what you really are focused on? Will it be on the ‘things’ of this ‘world’? Or on your own selfish desires to be ‘seen’ and ‘known’ by others in this world? Will it be on attaining wealth and status in this world? Clicks, likes, and followers? Where do you look for your value of ‘accomplishment’ in your life? If you constantly read the “Word” you know what Jesus said to do and where we should focus.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
So how exactly are we to do that? Do we do what WE think Jesus means by that? Do we do what WE want to do in pursuit of His Kingdom? How exactly do we find out what Jesus REALLY wants us to do individually and personally? There is ONLY one real method. It depends on our very intimate and personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and developing that communication with Him that we don’t question His direction and steps for us. Is this easy? NO! The enemies of our soul work no-stop to distract us, confuse us, and lead us away by any means possible from that vital intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. This discipline of learning to ‘listen’ to the Holy Spirit takes time and life experience as we learn to obey His voice and direction to us. I still ‘step’ wrongly at times, but I acknowledge my failures before Him, repent, ask forgiveness, and get up and move on. We must learn to be VERY sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and correction. Not just recognize it but actually ACT on it. Moving in the direction He wants us to go.
How soft is your heart when the Holy Spirit brings conviction and correction to you? Do you respond immediately? Or do you deny it, stuff it, and try to ignore it? Are you ‘good soil’ for the Holy Spirit to ‘plant’ His fruit in? How we listen to Him will determine SO much of our eternal rewards and our current life and peace within our souls. Whose ambassador are you really? Your own or His? Whose interests are you spending the majority of your daily efforts on?
Is the Holy Spirit ‘teaching’ you personally? Are you asking Him to teach you? Or are you still seeking other voices before His for the direction of your life and days? How do we really become ‘good soil’ that He can plant in? What needs to be prepared in us for Him to do that? Do you know the scriptures where it talks about the Holy Spirit teaching us, helping us, and guiding us? Have you ever thought about looking them up and asking Him directly about them? Do you always ‘run’ to some other human teacher for explanations and understanding when you have a spiritual question?
Holy Spirit teach us! Make your voice clear in our minds. Holy Spirit I surrender to Your truth and conviction in my life! What small steps do you want me to take today? Lord, I want to be ‘good soil’ you can plant in.

1 thought on “Are you good soil?”
Good questions my friend. By design we are to be selling Him in such a way as to prepare good soil but culturally we have built in too many justifications away from that
And most don’t recognize it and would deny it if it was pointed out.
