Conscience.

For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Romans 2:14-16

I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit— Romans 9:1

However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 1 Corinthians 8:7

For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Hebrews 9:13-14

Can you tell the difference between your conscience and the Holy Spirit? The conscience can be “seared”. What sears the conscience? Believing lies.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy 4:1-3

Think of the conscience like your car’s engine warning light. It lights up when something is ‘wrong’. Searing your conscience would be like unplugging that light. There is still something wrong but you no longer see any indication of that ‘wrong’. How do we get there? From believing the lies of the enemy sent to deceive us and steer us away from the truth. The conscience is given to every created human (see Romans 2:14-16). The Holy Spirit is NOT given to every human. His (Rhema) Word is True. Why do we believe the lies of the enemy? This would be a good question to ask the Holy Spirit for yourself. Why do you easily believe the lies of the enemies of God? We ALL have fallen into that trap. The Holy Spirit can reveal those lies that we have believed and tucked away deep into our souls and hearts, that need to be uprooted and cast into the fire.

Are you dismissing the “warning light” of your conscience? Have you stopped listening to the conviction from the Holy Spirit? Have you allowed your ‘fleshly’ desires to be in control of your life? Can your conscience be repaired?

Yes. The Holy Spirit can HEAL your conscience. Jesus IS the Healer. The Holy Spirit can strengthen your conscience. If your ‘warning light’ in ON, maybe we should be asking the Holy Spirit what to do?

Your conscience is an important thing to maintain to keep you from falling into sin, and avoiding the traps of the enemy. The Holy Spirit is our Guide and Comforter when it comes to understanding our conscience and what to do when we are getting a ‘warning light’. Have you learned to ask Him in those situations? Have you asked the Holy Spirit to re-adjust and correct your conscience to His standards?

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Corinthians 4:1-4

1 thought on “Conscience.”

  1. Great analogy of the conscience being likened to a car’s warning light. Very true
    I’m wondering if when God says the conscience is seared, does that mean that persons refusal to submit to God in whatever that area is, is no different than blaspheming the Holy Spirit
