…the prophet is a fool;
the man of the spirit is mad… Hosea 9:7
What is a prophet? Has God stopped calling people to that role? Did that role (Ephesians 4:11) for the Body of Christ go away? Or does God still use people in this way for His glory and purposes? Are there still people so haunted by the speaking Voice of God, almost possessed to achieve ends only they and God know? Are these people set apart from birth for the very specific purpose that God has in His heart? How do you explain those ‘prophetic savants’?
At some point these individuals were led by God and broke through the membrane of this dimension / world into the realm of Heaven. Either by extraordinary experiences or terrible challenges these individuals have learned a different way of existing of which they now can never ‘turn off’ this existence between the two realms. It doesn’t matter what is going on around them they are always now acutely aware of the ‘other’ dimension(s) and what is Truth for them is the heavenly realm and everything else seems as almost a ‘lie’. Finding words to explain the unexplainable is a constant challenge — but it is their drive and ‘call’ to try to express the inexpressible, whether by their mouths or in written form. They aren’t permitted to keep it all for themselves but tapped by God to share the information no matter how painful or frustrating or dangerous when God tells them to share it. They may give up several times, but they cannot run away from the weight and burden of the assignment God has given them – but the compulsion pushes them until they exhaust all that they have to deliver.
The ‘breaking’ process of these individuals can be especially difficult. They can try to run and escape their calling but they will meet nothing but failure and a dull and lifeless life. The higher dimension is ever so evident and they ‘know’ things which makes existence in these shadowlands like living in the leftovers of the universe. They experientially know something higher while trying to exist in everything lower. It seems their whole of their lives is being prepared fo the ‘Message’ they were created to bring. The Message and their head and body are now ‘one’ and the ‘on off’ switch was long ago turned off. They become a ‘living epistle’ of God. Called to ‘stand in the gap’ between worlds that individual must try to relate to those who have no clue and exist only in the temporal. The individual constantly struggles that the fact that Earth is where they must live and work.
The insight and skill of these individuals are ‘gifts’ from God — and is nothing of themselves. There is nothing they can boast of, and usually consider themselves to be of the lowest in social ranking and ability. In fact, their gifts most of the time can feel like a curse more than a blessing. They are much more at ‘home’ in the spiritual realms than the place they are forced to live. They easily and happily get lost in the heavenly realm when they open the scriptures as the Holy Spirit draws them to higher places. When asked to ‘preach’ the rush of information and visuals are too much and often all the individual can say is “Repent!!”, not really saying all they want to or the way they would like.
Much of this information was drawn from Chip Brogden’s book Prophetic Mandate and my own personal experience. Maybe you too can relate to some of this. If this is you .. know this… you are not alone. God told Elijah in 1 Kings 19 that would leave seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal. God then had Elijah go and find his replacement Elisha. Both of these prophets of God were called to ‘train’ others in the ‘school of prophets’ (2 Kings 2). Continue to search out your brothers and sisters in Christ in this calling.
