The Gift Jesus Gives

But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Luke 11:42

This is the verse the Pastors use today to justify their sermons on tithing. When the actual point of this statement by Jesus is … the love of God. Because when you are really and truly filled with His love … giving and the ‘doing’ of life is never a problem. To know the love of God you have to get to know Him. You must be willing to enter into relationship with Him. But those looking for other things believe the lies of the enemy — that ritual is all you need to do to get God’s favor. Many times those rituals they tell you to do …invite other gods to enter your life unknowingly.

Why do the prophets always sound so angry? Because God gives them assignments to look at and call out .. sin. Sin is extremely ugly and nasty to look at all the time. But make no mistake the prophet MUST live within the love of God. They must spend the bulk of their time in the heart of God. To face the enemy and sin head on over and over takes a surety of their standing before God. This means they need to dwell in His Presence of …love. Jesus needed time alone to ‘recharge’ in the Presence of His Father, to be able to face the ‘curse’ of this world head on day after day.  Jesus knew that every motivation, word, and action was to be from the heart of His Father. The gift of the prophet to the Church needs to be present for the Body to be equipped for the perils it has to face. If that ‘gift’ isn’t present and active there — the Church will slip into becoming just like the surrounding culture and atmosphere. Do you want real intimacy with the love of God? What kind of intimacy do you long for with your spouse? Just the kind where you read and reread their words to you? Or do you want ‘present’ time with them? Do you want to be able to talk with them about the present things, and experience their love for you in a fuller and richer deeper way? This is what the Holy Spirit is for. The Bible is God’s letter to you .. personally. But it isn’t His Presence. The Bible is His autobiography. Would you rather have your spouse’s biography or your spouse with you presently? Is their biography wrong? Of course not! It is ALL correct, but it is not the complete sum of them. This is what the Presence of the Holy Spirit is for in your life.

The gift of the prophet to the Body of Christ is the Councilor to help you navigate, enlighten, and deepen your relationship with Him.  To help you to know and understand His love for you in deeper ways through the Holy Spirit. Prophecy is an invitation to have a conversation with the Father. Prophecy should lead you in deeper to His heart for you. Discernment and wisdom help you understand Him in greater ways, and prepare you for greater ministry for, in, and through the Holy Spirit. The prophet gift is needed in each ekklesia (as well as the other 4). Otherwise why would Jesus want them given to the Body? Cessationists believe an autobiography is enough for a compete and full relationship. When times get really tough — do you want the ‘autobiography’ or the One it is about?

Times are about to get REALLY tough. It’s time to get to know the REAL Him, and not just the One you’ve read about. How? Work on your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
