Sowing to the Spirit.

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7-8

This is a very well-known and taught verse – yet in this western Christianity it is hardly practiced. Because most of the ‘fundamental’ seminaries teach “Father, Son, and Holy Scriptures” rather than real knowledge of the fruit, gifts, and Presence of the Holy Spirit. Teachers teach the scriptures. Pastors sermonize about the scriptures. Evangelists preach the scriptures. But where are the Prophets explaining the Holy Spirit? Oh yeah I remember… many of the academic ‘learned’ ones have deemed the first two gifts to the Church that Jesus gives… no longer exist in Ephesians 4:11-12. Why do I bring this up? Because of the question “How exactly does one sow to the Spirit?” Teachers will say reading the scriptures. Pastors will say meditating on the scriptures and listening to their sermons. Evangelists will say memorizing the scriptures so that you can preach the Gospel! But prophets will say … obeying the still small voice of the Holy Spirit that indwells you, that teaches you the relevance of the scriptures to your life, that guides you in your daily path, that prays WITH you the heart of God. Prophets are all about His Presence in our lives. Prophets are always seeking His heart in every matter. Prophets want every disciple of Jesus Christ to build an intimate vibrant relationship with the Spirit of God. Prophets want every believer to be ‘baptized’ / fully immersed in the Holy Spirit.

We know if we ‘feed’ the fleshly nature of ourselves we will reap a life that becomes almost zero in spirituality and is all about self… and eventually ends in complete corruption. But ‘feeding’ our spirit and surrendering to the Holy Spirit inside of us can only be explained and really taught BY the Holy Spirit Himself. How do we sow to the Holy Spirit Himself?

Jesus put it this way..,

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17

We ‘feed’ our spirit and sow to the Holy Spirit by obeying His instructions to us. It’s the Rhema Word spoken directly to our hearts that we need to obey. Our faith and spiritual testimony come from the Rhema Word spoke directly our hearts by the Spirit of God. Knowing the scriptures is very important, but shouldn’t we be first and foremost listening the One who inspired them to be written? Shouldn’t we be seeking His Voice of how those scriptures should translate into our daily lives? But most are comfortable just following the ‘three easy steps’ the pastor / teacher gives in the Sunday morning sermon. We should be seeking the Holy Spirit’s personal instructions to us EVERY morning! We should learn to ‘set our spiritual ears’ attuned to listen for His Voice to us … every morning. If He actually dwells within our bodies / our very being… shouldn’t we be able to hear Him within us? Shouldn’t we make that a VERY high priority? Which ‘gift’ that the Jesus gives to the ekklesia / Church is ALL about ‘sowing to the Spirit’? Shouldn’t it be all of them? The prophet gift is all about a life lived BY the Spirit of God.

Do you have anyone in your life who is spiritually mature in this ‘gift’? Seek them out. Ask them LOTS of questions. Then listen. Ask the Holy Spirit to be present in that meeting.
