These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:13-16
To all the travelers, Pilgrims longing for a home, from one who walks with you, on this journey called “Life’s road”, it is a long and winding road.
From one who’s seen the view, and dreamt of staying, over mountains high, and one who’s cried like you, wanting so much, just to lay down and die,
I offer this, we must remember this
[Chorus]
We are not home yet, we are not home yet
Keep on looking ahead, let our hearts not forget
We are not home yet
Not home yet, so close your eyes with me, and hear the Father saying
“Welcome home”, Let us find the strength, in all His promises to carry on
He said, “I’ll go prepare, a place for you”, so let us not forget.
I know there’ll be a moment, I know there’ll be a place, when we will see our Savior
And fall in his embrace, so let us not grow weary, or too contempt to stay.
‘Cause we are not home yet
So let us journey on, we are not home yet, so let us journey on
We are not home yet.
Song wrote by Steven Curtis Chapman / Not Home Yet
When Steven came along onto the music scene I immediately identified with His music. Only 3 years younger than myself his music spoke to my soul. The lyrics to his songs were for our generation and time and spoke to a real passion for Christ. Steven continues today writing and performing the songs given to him.
What is it that God created you to do? I always wished my gift was as bright and shiny as the ones I saw in the musicians around me. But we all have our place and worthiness in His intention for us. He created each of us for a purpose and to be loved by Him. And we naturally long for that intention of our Father to be fulfilled. But now we live in the free will furnace where we have an opportunity at every moment to choose what to do with ourselves and who we will serve. Will we serve ourselves or will we serve others? Will we surrender our free will to Him and serve Him and His plan for us? Only when we finally surrender to Him our free will and choose Him over and over, moment by moment, do we begin to see … His purpose. We finally begin to see what He has put within us … through our surrender to Him.
And I now yearn for Home (the one He purposed us forever) even more, and Steven’s song now even has more depth of meaning to me.
What music stirs your heart and soul?
