Feeling anxious?

Unless the Lord builds the house,
    those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
    the watchman stays awake in vain.

It is in vain that you rise up early
    and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
    for He gives to His beloved sleep. Psalms 127:1-2

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25-34

When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. Matthew 10:19

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-7

How do you do with this feeling of being anxious? Are you constantly anxious because of fears or uncertainty? Are you anxious with anything new in your routine? Do you get anxious when you have to speak to someone or in front of a crowd or authority? These are all very common events and feeling anxious is a very human condition. So what are we to do to combat this feeling of being anxious? In regular conditions one is usually put through a process of constant exposure to that very thing that bothers you to overcome that anxiety. Often it is a very slow and emotionally painful process. But we learn to overcome and eventually trust that we can deal with that certain issue or situation. This is the natural way.

The spiritual way takes our mind (thoughts), soul (emotions), and spirit (will / choices) to be guided by the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit. We first need to learn to discern His Voice within our minds. We do this by bringing thoughts (captive) to Him and allow Him to confirm or negate those thoughts. Secondly, we need to do the same with our soul and bring every emotion to Him for discernment of how that emotion is being triggered, whether it be from an external source or from our own internal issues. Then asking the Holy Spirit how to deal with those emotions we are experiencing. Here it is crucial that we have learned to trust His Rhema Word to us.

Are you quick to agree with the Holy Spirit? Do you seek Him out for counsel? Do you ask Him questions especially about your choices and decisions you need to make? Without the Holy Spirit how will ever understand ANY spiritual aspect? Have you asked Him how that understanding is supposed to work? Or do you still rely on your own way of thinking, education, and tradition?

Has anxiety caused you to fall into depression? Has hope seemed to have left you? Do you often feel isolated and that no one understands you? Are you overwhelmed with the stresses and pressures of the culture and economy?

Ask the Lord to show you. Ask the Lord to speak to you. Ask the Lord to teach you. Ask for your spiritual eyes and ears to be opened by Him. The enemy would have us to believe we’re are stagnant, finite, alone, and that physical death is our end. Jesus and the scriptures say something else.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-8

Feeling anxious. Go to Him. And tell Him ALL about it. Then wait… and listen to Him.
