For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. 2 Peter 2:20-21
My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20
One who wanders from the way of good sense
will rest in the assembly of the dead. Proverbs 21:16
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:14-15
Jesus said this to a church in Sardis ..
“‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Revelation 3:1-6
If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 1 John 5:16
In light of these difficult scriptural truths how should a spiritually mature person instruct others?
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:24-26
If one does not have a strong intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit then these truths / scriptures can create great division and controversy with the religious community.
It is vital that a ‘teacher’ or preacher of the Word be pursuing the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) while they present the scripture to the disciples of Christ. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that uses the Word to pierce deep into the very soul of an individual. Pray that He would be their Teacher and that you would just be a ‘sign post’ pointing to Him. Our faith isn’t based on an intellectual concept but on an actual intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Can you be gentle and wise enough to accept people who have disagreements within the spiritual community? Do you have the Holy Spirit giving you counsel on how to navigate those difficulties?
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:12-14
Which are you?

…I currently struggle with 2 Peter 2:20-21. I was saved Jan 2000 at the age of 45. It was a drastic change at a dire time. Raised Catholic, we found a home at an “Evangelical Covenant” church. In 2003 I was appointed Evangelism Ministry Chairman; immature in faith & no one to come along side. Labored 2 years with little to no help from others; all efforts were off campus. After an emotional conversation with God, I established a stand alone ministry and over the next 12 years I would personally share the Gospel one on one with over 15,000 lost souls. By this time we were members of a church with 2,000+ members. In our 3 years there I met 90+ “Godly” men. Not one Desired to meet with me week days off campus. It was now 2017, I was worn from working the ministry 90% of the time alone, the enemy constantly attacking & beginning to feel set aside by God. So I walked away from “church”. I have never forsaken my Lord, but I have not been obedient. I have sought pleasures that I once had forsaken and which I have claimed to repent. But I have found my self again in the mud; not wallowing but sitting crying out asking WHY! WHY do I feel forsaken.
Feeling ‘forsaken’ and actually being ‘forsaken’ are not the same. If one still desires Christ — they will never be forsaken. You know this Dennis. The wrestle within our soul (emotions and feelings) and mind is our main battle. I encourage you to continue to seek the Holy Spirit for answers and help.
Of course there is that weekly meeting … 😉 … that can take place.
Interesting question
They are times I am either one or the other.
Sometimes skillfully searching the scripture, discerning the deeper truths and baking in His presence
Other times completely missing His guidance and direction; falling way short of His Glory
