I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. Romans 16:17-19
How does one become wise? How does one obtain wisdom? Wisdom is mentioned in proverbs and often used with a pronoun. Could wisdom be considered a ‘person’ or ‘spirit’?
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12:7-8
Spiritual wisdom is not human wisdom.
Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 1:12-14
There are multiple warnings in scripture of not being ‘wise in your own sight’.
Claiming to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:22
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Romans 12:16
When this letter was written The Way had much to be careful about. Many wanted to persecute the followers of Jesus. More and more this world is again turning against those true followers of Jesus with severe violence and persecution.
“Seek the Lord while He may be found;
call upon him while He is near;” Isaiah 55:6
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, Ephesians 1:17
Prayer: Father You are Holy. We ask the Holy Spirit to impart wisdom to us, that we might know You with even more revelation. Come Lord Jesus and draw near to us. Holy Spirit we surrender to Your will and instruction. Lead us in Your path for us. Empower us to do those things you ask us to do. Teach us Your wisdom. Impart to us the mind of Christ. Help us to hear You with greater clarity and love. These things we ask with the Name of Jesus Christ.
We love You Jesus. We love You Father. We love You Holy Spirit.
