for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light Ephesians 5:8
For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
What does a light do in a dark room? What does a thermostat do? Do you carry His light? Does that light affect all those around you? Do you see any changes in those that you meet with everyday because of the light you carry? If you are married, how does Christ’s light in you affect your spouse?
Certainly, even those who are ‘dull’ and half blind now know that the world is getting darker, and it is increasing …seemingly daily. What about the true light bearers? Where are they? Do you count yourself among them? Do you see changes happening to those around you for the better – because of the light which is supposedly in you? Are you sharing the light? Are you brightening people’s day? Are you sharing your light in their ‘dark’ hours? Are you pointing people to the “light of the world”?
We often don’t understand how much we affect those around us. Don’t you understand that the entire human race is ‘connected’ in so many complex ways? Paul talks about those who follow Jesus as VERY connected. (Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31) We ALL have our designed place in that ‘connection’. We all who carry the light are affected by everyone else who are in the Body.
If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 1 Corinthians 12:26
How would you measure your effect on your family? Is it for the good? Does your presence, words, and actions inspire them to be better? Does the light of Christ in you attract them to Jesus? Does the light of Christ within you even enter your conversations with people? Are you sharing how the Holy Spirit is showing you Jesus… everyday with your family and friends? I must admit – that these questions are personally …convicting.
What are you doing so that the light in you is growing and expanding? Are you seeking Him every day, throughout your entire day? Are you listening to the Holy Spirit’s conviction as He points at your heart and actions that don’t line up with Christ? Are you listening and obeying quickly His instructions? Are you acting on His promptings to say and do what He is asking of you to give to others?
Can you actually say that you are a ‘light’ to everyone around you?
[Father forgive us for covering up our light when it is most needed. Forgive us for squelching that light when the Holy Spirit asks us to share it. Father we need You! Jesus we need You! Holy Spirit we need You!]
Ponder how you can share His light today. Ask the Holy Spirit specifically how you are to share His light and with who.
