Be still.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Psalm 37:7

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10a

Be still. What does that mean to you when you hear that? In Psalm 37:7 the Hebrew word is  דָּמַם (damam) meaning to be silent, still, rest, to cease, to be quiet. In Psalm 46:10 it is the Hebrew word רָפָה (raphah) meaning to relax, to let go, to cease, to be weak, to be idle. Can you relax and be still …knowing God is your refuge?

David said in Psalm 16:1

Preserve me, O God, for in You I take refuge.

Here the Hebrew word is חָסָה (chacah) which is a primitive root; to flee for protection; figuratively, to confide in — have hope, make refuge, (put) trust.

Can you be still knowing He is your secret hiding place? Is Jesus your refuge and where you run when you are in trouble? Have you learned to give it all into His hands? Or you still trying to hang on to control? Have you learned to surrender to Him in all things, giving every care and concern to Him?

Stop right now and give it all to Him.

Prayer: Jesus … I give you everyone and everything to You.

Can you relax and take deep breaths slowly counting …inhaling and exhaling on a four count? While deeply breathing your mind and heart should be focused on Jesus.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2

This God—His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him. Psalm 18:30

Do you have the same heart as David and say to the Lord…

Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You. Psalm 25:20

Know this deeply in your soul …

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8

Is Jesus your… rock? Is He the very cornerstone and the foundation of your life? Is He the One you think of when the crisis hits, or when disappointment shows up on your doorstep? Or when anxiety and worry floods your soul?

Do you stay close to Him throughout your entire day – your mind and heart continually seeking Him? This is the prayer and communion discipline that He desires with you.

When the day’s events become overwhelming it is good to pause… and take a minute. Find your refuge in Him, whispering a prayer of surrender to Him. Take some deep breaths and refocus on Jesus …giving it ALL to Him.
