Just as I would introduce someone to Jesus I would have them begin to read one of the gospels in the Bible to begin to learn what Jesus was all about. Obviously one can go extensive in research and digging of the entire scriptures and learn a whole lot more about Jesus. Where would I send someone to learn of the Holy Spirit? The book of Acts. In Acts are the most stories of how the Holy Spirit interacts with people. Also of course like learning of Jesus one can learn a whole lot more about the Holy Spirit reading the entire scriptures.
If you already haven’t done it — do an extensive study of the book of Acts and the Holy Spirit. Look at each instance where He is mentioned. Catalog how He interacted with people, what happened when He did. It will certainly surprise you as you learn about Him. It will also raise all sorts of questions in you, which is a good thing. I suggest you take those questions to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to show you, speak to you, and teach you about Himself. If you aren’t going to the original languages when researching you aren’t going deep enough. Biblehub is a wonderful free tool you can use to look at the original languages of the scriptures. Biblehub also has so many other tools in that website / app that is useful for serious biblical study.
If you really want a life filled with the Holy Spirit then you will have to put in the work, just like any other relationship you currently have. Learning how to pray WITH Him. Learning how He sounds in your mind. Learning how He operates through you. Learning what He wants you specifically to work on within yourself. If He really is our ‘Teacher’ (John 14:26) then are we actually purposely putting ourselves in His ‘classroom’? Most people don’t even know how to do that. Most think sitting in a pew in four walls listening to a ‘pastor / preacher’ does that, unfortunately that is by far the least avenue of His ‘classroom’. His ‘classroom’ really is … YOU. If He truly indwells you… then He will ‘teach’ you all day long if you allow Him to do so.
So today my encouragement to you is to PRESS IN to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to make Himself known to you that is undeniable to your heart and mind. Push to know Him more. Wait on Him. Expect Him to speak to you. This isn’t about being .. religious, it’s about developing a relationship that is real and deep with the very Spirit of God. Is there another relationship in your life that is more important? What evidence will be brought to prove that your relationship with the Holy Spirit / Jesus was your highest priority? Just sitting in four walls on Sunday morning isn’t enough to make you a Christian. Our attendance to those services won’t be the deciding factor.
Jesus didn’t come to start a ‘religion’. He came to bring us access to His Father, Himself, and give the Holy Spirit to ANYONE who asked for Him. Our participation in religion doesn’t prove our relationship with Him; hearing His Voice and doing what He asks us to do … does.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15
