God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalms 46:1
So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. Ezekiel 33:7
God’s watchmen are those who HEAR His Voice and ‘word(s)’ that are a warning for a people in their present condition. If the watchman does not deliver the word to the people their blood will be on the watchman’s hands and the watchman’s life may be forfeit. Pretty serious command, as your life depends on being faithful to the Lord.
Now-a-days we tend to use that title of Watchman pretty loosely and not with as much seriousness. I definitely don’t think it’s a good thing, as the Lord is HOLY, and we should take ALL of His commands and words to us with great seriousness and soberness in the Fear of the Lord, knowing He will also take what He says to us very seriously. Some people think they are ‘watchmen’ because they try to discern the condition of the time and speak or write about it, but God’s real watchmen are to deliver the Lord’s WORDS of warning to a specific people. The warning will be about repentance and ready the people for what is about to come upon them.
The watchman’s role actually is a part of the calling of the prophet. Ezekiel chapter 33 explains this role. Are you called to the role of a prophet? Has the Lord specifically spoken to you personally about this role of prophet you are to have within the Body of Christ, to edify and equip them for service? If He hasn’t then you probably are not a ‘watchman’.
Many use the title of watchman and use it so that to draw people in to read or listen to them. It can easily be used as a ‘fear’ enticement. People who are driven and easy manipulated by fear will often look nervously to the horizon wondering what terrible thing is coming. Many are motivated by fear and the enemies of God know that. What was the Lord’s Jesus command to us about the problems of tomorrow?
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34
Here the need is for real discernment and confirmation by the Holy Spirit, as to what each person should being doing that day and at that very moment. That is how one walks in the perfect ‘peace’ of the fruit of the Holy Spirit and they are not moved by the swirling storm of circumstances around them.
Don’t be swayed into fear by the prognosticators of the future who are now SO prevalent now all over on social media and in the mainstream media. It seems everywhere you turn now someone is being a ‘chicken little’. Listen to those who continue to point you to Jesus Christ and the very personal instructions you are to get from the Holy Spirit. But if a real watchman’s word is confirmed by the Holy Spirit … listen and obey what the Holy Spirit is telling you to do!
Stay PRESENT with the Lord at ALL times. For if He is truly with you … what do you have to fear?
