Transitions

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in a person’s heart,

but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Life happens. Just when we think we’ve got a handle on things or think that we’ve just crested the top of the hill …we see it and experience something different. The path changes, what we thought was the top was just a lull in the path for a bit and then we see an even greater incline ahead. Or just when we thought we had traction on a project an employee quits, or a piece of machinery breaks down, or some other added unforeseen expense drops into your lap. Those are the sudden transitions which happen throughout our lives many times.

In these types of scenarios the enemy rushes in to mock, belittle, confuse, blame, and berate you — that it is all your fault, trying desperately to send you into a tailspin and hoping that you will crash and burn. But if — you are really His, and His “kid”, and He’s your Dad (Abba), then you know He really is piloting the ship of your life and you’re just His copilot. Those events reminds us who really is in control — and it definitely is NOT us. What is needed in these situations? Humility, trust, clarity, friends, and time to think about the future and what really He has created you for. It’s time to take some extra efforts in talking things over with Him, and taking the time to listen… and be open to what He might have in store for you.

From life experience I know that transitions can be hard, stressful, difficult, stretching, exhausting, draining, and challenging … to say the least. Personally my wife and I have been going through the transition of the remodeling of our first and only house we’ve had together in our 40 years of marriage. It has been a stretching experience for me, but I’ve also seen the Lord’s Hand in so much of it. And He has daily had to remind me to trust Him. Those small whispered words in my mind “Trust Me” spoken by the Lord has been the ‘rock’ I’ve stood on as I watched more money than I’ve ever spent at one time — go through my hands. My wife and I have always been VERY conservative with our money. Just ask our children. LOL! So this project has been an eye opener, and an investment in a lot of different areas. Buying a home, building a home, remodeling a home rate as some of the most stressful things one can go through. Starting a new business — which I have along with this summer’s project of a remodel has really put me to the test. To which I would probable give myself a “B” grade. There is definitely room for improvement in my case. I haven’t given up — but I’ve felt the hits from the enemy wanting to shut me down.

Transitions can be good AFTER looking at them from the other side of them. But during? Transitions are tough. So what do you do when you think you’re drowning and can’t go on? Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Did you hear the voice of Dory in your head too?   The Holy Spirit can use all sorts of things to guide you and push you, and encourage you. Of course He also uses scripture and makes it real to you via your experiences.

Just remember who the Pilot really is of your life. My advice? Stay in the copilot’s seat its safer for you.
