To be “seen”.

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” John 1:45-51

Jesus “sees” you. Most of us have a deep yearning to be ‘known’ and to be ‘seen’. I believe it comes from within the ‘space’ in our soul that is to be ‘filled’ with the Presence of the Holy Spirit, and we were created that way for that very purpose. We were created to be loved by God, and to enter into relationship with Him and to love Him in return. Inherently we ALL want to be the fullness of who we were created to be by God. Most of us struggle through life wondering and searching for our purpose and calling, wondering who will love us the way we need to be loved, which is … unconditionally. We want to know what we’re good at – and what we were made to do, and who we were meant to be with … in family terms.

How can you actually experience any of this? It will have to be through the ministry of the Holy Spirit within you. The Holy Spirit is now the conduit to spiritual knowledge, understanding, and spiritual experiences. You must learn to hear His Voice and His ways within you specifically. Each of us are uniquely and wonderfully made by our Creator to minister to Him as ONLY we can. The Holy Spirit knows these very specific created ways within us and will utilize those specific traits and gifts within us as He relates to each one of us. So copying someone else’s spiritual ‘gift’ out of our own power will never be genuine or what He intended us to do.

If you work at this relationship with the Holy Spirit and learn to yield to His ways and instructions you will learn more about yourself and what He created you for. It is actually this symbiotic relationship that helps us mature into the likeness of Jesus. We are a ‘facet’ of His love, made to reflect a very specific side of His immense love. We were made for ‘eternity’, not just for these few years on earth. In my humble opinion we are 2/3 an eternal created being, made in His image. Only the physical side 1/3 side of us will be re-made or resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit into an ‘eternal’ body. Thus making us fully an eternal being — never to experience death in any form by the grace of love of Jesus Christ, for those who have accepted His free gift of salvation from sin and death.

How exactly do we ‘work’ at this relationship with the Holy Spirit? Ask Him to show you. Invite Him to speak to you — and then listen. Write down any thoughts or scriptures that come to you. Weigh all these thoughts with the Word. Learn to ‘know’ His Voice within your mind and the three possible sources of thoughts in your mind which are … yourself, the Holy Spirit, and the enemies of God. Learning those differences will greatly enhance your spiritual growth into maturity.

Ask Him to be extra clear in your mind. Invite Him to show you what He wants you to do. If He convicts you of any sin or areas He wants you to change — be quick about it, repent, and ask for His help on what to do next. Ask for His love to fill you completely again. Become who He created you to be! For His glory and praise!
