The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a man of war;
the Lord is his name. Exodus 15:2-3
Just so there’s no confusion …the word “Lord” here is Yaweh / Jehovah. The ‘Lord’ is God.
But the Lord is with me as a dread warrior;
therefore my persecutors will stumble;
they will not overcome me.
They will be greatly shamed,
for they will not succeed.
Their eternal dishonor
will never be forgotten.
O Lord of hosts, who tests the righteous,
who sees the heart and the mind,
let me see your vengeance upon them,
for to you have I committed my cause. Jeremiah 20:11-12
Who has searched out and knows the Lord? Who has come to know His heart by fighting along side Him? Who understands His fierce vengeance? Like a father who protects His children with everything within him, even to the point of his life. Does the Lord take interest in the battle?
When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” And the commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15
I can understand why the Jews expected this type of messiah. The scriptures are clear that He is a …fierce warrior. But we can’t forget that not only is He the lion .. He is also the … lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)
Do you believe that God will fight for you? Have you experienced that side of the Lord? But we must understand the battle He wants us to fight. Our fight is not against ‘flesh and blood’.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
Our battle most likely will to take place in the ‘gap’… and in intercession. Have you learned how to be a ‘prayer warrior’? Have you learned how to fight a spiritual battle? The Messiah came to fight the spiritual battle first. Then when He returns to this earth He will come as the Conqueror, the Kings of Kings, the Warrior. Has the Lord trained you in the ways of spiritual warfare? This spiritual fight is not for the faint of heart.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
