But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
Knowing Him, and listening to His instructions (via the Holy Spirit), we move to obey Him with all fervency and diligence. Being steadfast (Greek = hedraios means securely stationed and firmly positioned) and immovable (Greek = ametakinétos means without movement or change in location) has a doubly emphasized position of ‘taking a firm stance’ ready to do what He has instructed us. If we do that… we can know everything we do in that obedience will be counted for His glory, and our eternal reward.
The key here is ‘His instructions’, and not our own wishes. So many move out of what they want to do — rather than out of obedience to Him and what He is asking of us. So much ministry these days is done out of our own ideas of what we think is needed, rather than by a work through and with the Holy Spirit. What eternal rewards will come from our work not done by His prompting or Spirit? Do you really want to make an argument for our work that is done without the Spirit of God that it will have eternal rewards?
Pride sets itself against the humility required to ‘hear’ His instructions for us. We often think we ‘know better’. If we do hear Him then the danger is that fear freezes us from ‘stepping out in faith’, to the instructions He has given us. Pride and fear are roots of iniquity in our character and heart that must be dealt with if we are determined to actually be obedient to His instructions. Moving to step out in faith, fear must be conquered, and there will be failures as we learn. Because the Lord respects the Father’s gift of free will in all of us — He will allow us to fail in our attempts. If we’re smart we will review with Him why we failed after the fact with each attempt.
Our determination to be obedient to Him will always be challenged by the enemy. This is why Paul advises us to be ‘steadfast and immovable’. This is especially for our determination in our will / choices to be obedient to His call.
Be firm in your heart and choice to DO what He is asking you to do… today.
Have you taken the time to ask Him.. and then listen?
