Spiritual Dejection

But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. Luke 24:21

Have you discovered that God’s ways aren’t the way you figured them to be? That what you thought would happen a certain way at a certain time … didn’t? Everything the disciples hoped for was correct but their conclusions about the way God would accomplish His goals was different than they expected.

Have you ever felt dejected spiritually? That God isn’t answering you the way you want Him to?  Or the way you have understood the scriptures didn’t turn out the way you thought? If that is the case then you are to blame and not God… or anyone else. Usually our dejected feelings come from two sources .. I have either satisfied a lust or I have not satisfied a lust. The definition of lust I am using is, “I must have it at once!” Spiritual lust causes me to demand an answer from God, instead of seeking God Himself. Have you found yourself hoping and thinking God will do certain things for you?  Is today the ‘third day’ and God still hasn’t done what you think He should have done… for you? Are you justified then in sitting in those feelings of dejection and in blaming God for not doing what you wanted Him to? Whenever we insist that God should give us an answer to our prayers we are off track. The purpose of prayer is to get ahold of God, and have a conversation, not necessarily get the answer you want.  We must remember God is working in our everyday events and in and through the people around us .. all the time… for our benefit. Dejection spiritually is always wrong, and we are to blame for it.

Some of us look for visions from heaven and for earth shaking events to see God’s power. While He many do that ‘in His time and purpose’, us feeling dejected when we don’t get what we want right away is proof of our immaturity and lack of faith in Him. We need to realize that God is working through everyday events and people around us all the time for your blessing and theirs. We should be asking Him to show us what He is doing currently rather than what we want to see. If we would only obey Him with the last instructions He gave us, we would then begin to ‘see’ Him all around us. Sometimes the most amazing revelations we can receive are the everyday things He is doing in our lives … and then we begin to see Jesus in a whole new way.
