Pondering Humility

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:12

What is the root of real humility? Realizing God for who He really is. Knowing His heart. Knowing you are clearly not who you think yourself to be. Truly understanding your complete identity is who He says you are.

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. Romans 12:3

Humility is a MUCH bigger thing than people realize. One cannot be who they have been created to be without it. For one cannot be with Him without it. And in Him we have our complete purpose and identity.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 4:10

Why do you think the scriptures speak so much about pride? Do you know God ‘hates’ certain things?

There are six things that the Lord hates,

seven that are an abomination to him:

haughty eyes, a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked plans,

feet that make haste to run to evil,

a false witness who breathes out lies,

and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19

Do you notice how real humility is missing in all of those? In fact, humility is the exact opposite of those things.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Philippians 2:3

How do we arrive at real humility? Truly understanding where you stand with God. When you are able to face the Truth that the Holy Spirit is presenting to you. The closer you draw to God the more real humility it requires.

Do you seek Him in humility? Do you come before Him in pride? With demands? With complaints? Do you think more of yourself than you ought? What was Lucifer’s issue?

When we worship is it in an attitude and heart posture of humility? Gratefulness? Thankfulness? Confession?

We should come to know Him as our loving Father who so wants to keep you surrounded and kept tightly in His arms.

What can you do without Him that has any value? What can He do?

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Come humbly before the Throne offering your true heart of love, which He gives you in the first place. For He is the Giver of all good things.

Father …you are my Source of all that matters.
