There are those days where you get the feeling to be just ‘plodding along’, going from one menial task / errand / job to the next. The days even feel ‘gray’. Even those days where the busyness of life consumes the day and your time … there can be a ‘way’ to redeem the day, throughout the day.
It’s going through the day with a Companion. Who talks with you, and shares with you from a different perspective. Who teaches you and asks you questions and engages with you.
Obviously if you’ve read my stuff long enough you know of Whom I’m talking about.
I catch myself forgetting He is there with me. But when that happens I immediately begin to ask Him questions. I ask for His help.
Do I always get an immediate response from Him? No. And I’ve learned through the years it’s almost always my fault because I’m not listening or I don’t have ‘time’ to listen to Him. Which in fact …if I really prioritized Him — of course I have the time. So it usually is my own laziness, apathy, and procrastination that hinders me from hearing Him.
Like in any real relationship —you have to work at it. You have to be genuinely interested in developing a deeper connection with the individual. The same goes for your relationship with God and the Holy Spirit.
I often think of a ‘picture’ I saw in my head once. It was of Jesus sitting on a curb just watching all of humanity drive by, run by, and walk by Him.
We race to and fro-
Ever faster we go –
He sits waiting for us to stop-
Wondering if we’ll ever have the time to talk.
Here’s the thing — we’ve been conditioned to think we have to have a special time or place to meet with Him. Obviously if the Holy Spirit lives WITHIN us —and we can talk with Him ANYTIME. In fact …I believe that’s what He wants to have with us, a daily running dialogue / two way conversation throughout our day.
Stop the ritualist prayers. Stop the formal ‘prayer’ speak — you know the flowery words you think you need when you pray to Him. Just talk to Him like you would anyone else. Like He doesn’t really know the ‘real’ you and know how you talk 100% of the time?
Just start the conversation with Him.. and see where it goes.
