Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God. John 8:47
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
What is the main characteristic of the demonically possessed? They ‘hear’ voices inside them. Obviously demons can speak into the mind of the individual that they are working on, oppressing, possessing, or torturing. If that is the case — demons have the capability to speak into the mind of an individual but God does not? How does one learn how to discern the Voice of God within them? How does one learn to know when God is speaking to them? Can you actually have a conversation with the Spirit of God within your mind? Have you learned how to discern and differentiate between all the thoughts in your mind and what their ‘source’ is? Is it your own thoughts, is it an enemy of God, or is it the Spirit of Truth (Holy Spirit)? If you haven’t learned how to do that how will you know what God wants you to do or is asking you to do?
If someone blindfolded you and had you stand in a room with a lot of other people along with your husband or wife or child and had everyone all speak at the same time — would you be able to pick out your spouse’s or child’s voice? Especially if your spouse or child was calling your name? Why? Familiarity. You’ve learned what their voice sounds like. You know how they speak, especially when they talk to you. The scenario is the same with the Spirit of God. You learn by familiarity. How can you learn what He sounds like or speaks like? Read the written Word. The Bible is a pretty big book with LOTS of stories, and prophecy, and lessons where God is speaking. If you have become very familiar with the written Word — you begin to ‘know’ how God has communicated with others in the past. The Spirit of God does not contradict the Word, but actually uses it to confirm His wishes for you. Often He will use the scriptures (especially at the beginning of your relationship) to guide you in the proper responses He wants you to model for the situations around you. He wants to develop a very tight and intimate relationship with you.
Many have told me, “I don’t hear God the way you hear God.” Actually they do hear Him the way I hear Him, but haven’t yet learned or built that ‘filter’ in their minds to discern or differentiate their sources of their thoughts in their minds to the degree that they know with certainty that what they are ‘hearing’ in their minds is the Voice of God. I also learned early on in my life to really ask Him questions and ‘listen’ to His responses. Because of that early training I have had many more years of ‘following His instructions’ to me personally. But like any relationship of love and familiarity — here in this shadowland you MUST work at it .. daily, and regularly. Do you read the Word daily? Do you ask Him to explain it to you? Do you ask Him what He wants you to do each day? Do you ask Him who to pray for, and what He wants you to pray for them? Have you learned when the Spirit of God is speaking to you in your mind? Do you ask Him to confirm it with scripture? Would the demonic confirm their wishes with scripture in your mind? I’m not talking about utilizing the Word to do what you ‘want’ to do, or twist the words to get what you desire. That is done way too much by those wanting to manipulate people for their own glory and power .. many times these people are standing behind a pulpit.
Do you know the characteristics of the Holy Spirit? What is His fruit? (Galatians 5:22-23) Those fruit are the evidence of His work in your life.
How much of a relationship do you really want with God? How spiritually hungry are you?
Learn to ‘hear’ His Voice.
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. John 21:25
