“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Mark 10:21-22
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25, 33-34
What do you see as your security? Large savings accounts? Large retirement accounts? Enough money to never rely on anyone else? How much do you confer with the Holy Spirit concerning your finances and financial security? How many of your financial decisions are made out of fear or lust (always wanting more) concerning money rather than in trust and faith in God? Are you receiving ANY instructions from the Holy Spirit concerning all aspects of the money under your control? Is God your security or is money?
Are you ‘attached’ emotionally to things? Are you trying to quell difficult emotions within you by money or spending? Where is the fruit of self control by the Spirit of God in your life concerning the money under your control? Can you ‘let go’ of the comforts you are so use to? The rich young man who approached Jesus went away sad because of his attachments to all his ‘things’. Is the Holy Spirit attempting to have you ‘trust’ God to meet your needs? Are you following His instructions when it comes to your work, job, and daily spending habits? Is He asking you to change any of your behaviors concerning money?
Money is a powerful force. Money is NOT something that should be concerning us or driving us .. IF we are in His family. The love of money can send you down a very dark road. Do you love money?
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Timothy 6:10
Two biggest areas causing marital divorce, sex and money, and all that surrounds those two issues. Money and debt can cause so much stress. Less debt less stress. Be careful with the shackles of debt (this includes credit cards). You are attaching yourself to something or someone else when you agree to go into debt. Don’t have two masters.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:24
Also don’t allow fear to dictate your financial health or feelings of security or insecurity. Follow His instructions about money. Ask the the Holy Spirit to teach you about how to handle money. The scriptures are FILLED with advice and warnings about money.
What are you doing with His money? Wait .. did you think the money was yours? If you are His — then all the money you have in your control is now His. Are you asking Him how to use His money?
