For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
How many dimensions are there? According to string theory — there has to be ten dimensions for the math to work. Some physicists say 11 dimensions, others say more. Math is God’s language — and it seems we are like infants just beginning to understand it. Certainly the scriptures speak of more dimensions than the ones were are currently experiencing in these bodies of flesh and blood. Time is often considered a ‘dimension’. Yet we can only go one way in it currently. Scriptural texts suggest we live in four dimensions — and if you count time as one — that would seem so. Although studying the words — the fourth dimension listed seems to be more than just ‘time’ in properties.
The angelic realm seems to be in a dimension that we currently cannot see or experience with these bodies. God has ‘opened’ the eyes of some to ‘see’ into that dimension it seems in several passages of scripture. So we know that there is a whole lot more going on around us that we don’t know. Obviously the scriptures state that in many different ways. The above verse is one of many intimating that fact. Just the word ‘spiritual’ suggests something ‘beyond’ or ‘supernatural’ (that being beyond our current natural world).
These ‘extra’ realms is where this verse suggests the ‘war’ actually is. It is against the rebellious fallen angelic number and the disembodied spirits that have no place in His Kingdom and haunt the realms of earth. The ancient Hebraic idea of demons were that they were the departed ‘dead’ and not the fallen angels that went with Lucifer / satan. Now what exactly which departed dead are they speculating? The dead Nephilim or giants? Or dead humans that were forbidden to enter into ‘Abraham’s rest’? None of the conclusion of exactly what is the origin of the disembodied spirits is talked about in cannon scripture — as far as I can decipher. In the Apocrypha there are many stories that make suggestions to their origin. But that they exist? Jesus cast out demons from human hosts …that is undebatable for the believer.
So we know there is a BIG realm beyond us and around us we just can’t see or really experience in full physical sensory mode. There are gifts of the Holy Spirit that do suggest an ability to ‘know’ about that realm. Certainly we even have Old Testament stories that prophets had utilized that Holy Spirit gifting and saw many things.
So there is the answer to our wisdom and revelation … the Holy Spirit. It is He that will open our spiritual eyes to see. It is He that opens our minds to understand. It is He that empowers us to carry out the instructions of Jesus. Our mental faculties will only go so far if we are limited only to our five senses. Yet.. the Holy Spirit enlightens our minds and spirits to “know” there is more going on around us than we can see and sense with our physical senses. The power of thought is obviously more powerful than we think it is — as this verse tells us to bring “every thought captive to obey Christ”. This is our call to engage with the Holy Spirit in our minds much more than all of us currently do in our daily lives. Having moment by moment conversations with the indwelling Spirit of God.
If were stumbling around on a battlefield with a blindfold on your head … with bombs going off around you and bullets wizzing by — wouldn’t you want someone telling you what to do .. to avoid getting killed or injured? This is the role of the Holy Spirit for you — and a whole lot more. Isn’t it time you begin pressing into learning about Him, and asking Him questions?
