Dark times

For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5

The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,

    and the light about me be night,”

 even the darkness is not dark to you;

    the night is bright as the day,

    for darkness is as light with you. Psalms 139:11-12

No matter how dark it gets, we are with the Light.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. Revelation 21:23

Do you have days like I do where you sense the overall darkness increasing? As we progress in life — it’s not all ‘skipping through the daises’. We all have days where we really feel the oppression surrounding us pushing us down. I have to consciously lift my countenance by ‘looking up’ in my soul. For me that means putting on worship music and forcing myself to worship and praise Him for all He has done for me and given to me. I rehearse the blessings I have ..as a practice of gratitude. I rehearse scripture that speaks to the issue I am experiencing. Like I did at the beginning of this devotional — I remind myself of the Truth and understand my ‘senses’ don’t necessarily show me reality, scripture and the Words of the Holy Spirit do. Jesus actually is Light! In Him Heaven comes alive in my soul! I take out the ‘pearls’ He has given me .. and ponder them again.

Is it easy? Not always, but I know I am not subject to my emotions, feelings, or circumstances. I’ve learned that my will can choose to ‘set myself before Him’ and cry out to Him. I can boldly come before Him .. at any time. For I know what He has promised me, that He will never leave me. Your will needs to be in control of you … not your feelings, not your emotions, not your body, not your cravings, nor anything that puts itself above Him within you. We will always have a choice to choose Him at every step and day of our life on earth, even at the last breath and moment — we can choose Him … over everything else. Being spiritually mature means being led by your spirit which is lead by the Holy Spirit in ALL your decision making processes. You’ve disciplined yourself and nurtured the Fruit of the Holy Spirit of self control within you, to place yourself under His direction in every circumstance.

Set yourself with determination to keep Him in the forefront of your mind and day. No matter how you feel you declare Him to be Lord of your life and day. He is your Source. He is the well of ‘living water’ to quench your dry soul.

Lord Jesus COME!
