Creative Inspiration

Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. And He has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer. Exodus 35:30-35

Do you consider yourself to be a ‘creative’? God has His plans for each part of His creation and ‘child’. In that plan is given a natural ability and talent which is from a mix from your parents and grandparents. Can you draw? Do you have design capabilities? Do you have an ability to figure out mechanical machines? Do you extraordinary speaking or writing skills? Do you have an ‘eye’ of painting or photography? Can you ‘teach’? Can you weave, crochet, knit, quilt, sew, and make clothes? Are your musically inclined? Do you create poetry? The myriad of God given talent is wide and expansive. God made us to be ‘like Him’ — in that each of us can create.

But I also believe we were made to carry another ‘component’ to highlight, hone, and magnify our God given abilities and talent for His glory and purposes. That extra ‘component’ being the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit that breathes inspiration into our minds. Together we are able to fulfill the purpose(s) God made us for. We find the greatest joy doing what He made us to do. For some .. like myself it can take quite awhile to find out and discern what that real natural ‘talent’ is. I’m able to learn fast and can be mediocre in many things — but never as good as a person who is made for that ‘skill’ like carpentry, or plumbing, or mechanics. Within just the last few years I’m discovering that writing through my imagination by His inspiration is what really fuels my … joy. But now-a-days it seems everyone is ..writing something.

What makes certain ‘work’ stand out is the ‘inspiration’ given by the Spirit of God to the creator of that ‘work’. You can be a craftsman, and a designer. You can be a writer and a excellent story teller. You can be one who understands quickly and also be an excellent teacher. All of these natural talents can become extraordinary by the ‘breath’ / inspiration from the Holy Spirit. Can you tell when He is giving you inspiration? If you are aware that He is .. do you ask Him any questions in the process of that creation? Do you set yourself before Him for His direction in that skill or talent?

When you know the inspiration and ability comes from Him — you know that taking ‘credit’ for the work can be a dangerous thing. Because if you recognize where the inspiration and talent came from — you must rightly give Him the credit. Humility becomes a necessity whenever the ‘work’ is displayed. The artist / craftsman MUST give God credit that is due Him. If one doesn’t give credit to God — the danger is ‘pride’. The thing that happened with Lucifer and caused his turn.

Creating should be fun and exciting and fulfilling. It seems every child has a skill innately designed within them — and it spills out in wonderful ways when they are very young. This world quickly can come to squash, diminish, and stifle that creative joy within us. I mourn what happens to children through the indoctrination of the systems of this world. God has created us to create with Him beautiful works of … art. That ‘art’ can be in every trade and skill. It could be a finely tuned engine, a masterpiece of wood carving skill, an intricate quilt, a complex building, and a story that brings you a greater revelation of God.

Listen to the apostle Peter’s words and advice…

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
