When you discipline a man
with rebukes for sin,
you consume like a moth what is dear to him;
surely all mankind is a mere breath! Selah Psalms 39:11
Almost everyone when faced with their own mortality — they gaze into the ‘eternal’ and either entreat God or shake their fist at Him. It seems there are very few atheists when death is near. We have within us His design and conscience. We have the breath of Him in our souls. Our lives in perspective become like a breath before His Presence. Why do we naturally wait so long to seek God?
Jesus understood this and told His disciples..
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14
Because of God’s great grace and love we’ve been made and given a free will … to be given the chance to choose … love. To choose Him. To choose our own path. To choose moment by moment whether to live life with Him or against Him.
Again Jesus…
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Luke 11:23
Even those of us who are striving everyday to walk with Him — still have to choose Him moment by moment. It is the power and indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit that we so need to accomplish that which He instructs us to do. Because we do ‘in-fact’ have assignments from Him that cannot be accomplished any other way. We are given opportunities far beyond our own abilities. Example? How many of you can walk on water? Yet …Jesus asked Peter to do that. (Matthew 14:29)
By these close and most intimate personal choices we are learning the ‘fellowship’ with Him, and what it really means to ‘walk with Him’.
Do you not know …how close you actually are to the …edge of eternity? Do you not know…that our bodies are fragile … and yet wonderfully made / designed? Do you not know … that there are ‘spiritual forces’, authorities, rulers, and cosmic powers over this present darkness that seek your own personal destruction and death? Do you not know …that these powers do not sleep or slumber but work and war tirelessly against you and the armies of heaven and God Himself?
In the Light of eternity — how long is your earthly life? Do any of us know how many days anyone has left? We are but a vapor and breath in the Light of eternity. Knowing this … should make our diligence to seek Him out everyday more emphatic.
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:31-34
Stay close to Him today. Listen well.
1 thought on “…but a breath away.”
I really enjoyed this, I needed to read this today, our reminders.
