The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalms 147:3
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
Isaiah 61:1-3
As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
have gone over me.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock:
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God. Psalms 42
Where there seems to be no way — He makes a way. We often think that it is by our strength that we are to accomplish things. But in true faith it is the exact opposite. It is BY His strength — IN MY WEAKNESS He accomplishes His purposes. It is Jesus Christ who IS the hope of my life and salvation. Not my efforts, or talents, or strength do I exist or be. We often will face challenges WAY beyond our capabilities — which is NOT what we’re taught. We’ve been taught Jesus wouldn’t give us something too difficult. Not true. It certainly will be too difficult for you — but NOT for Him. This means He wants to do it WITH you. This is the challenge — to be able to work WITH Him through your current challenges. To be able to listen to the Spirit of God within you — as He helps you step by step — with each moment and day.
This life can be VERY crushing and difficult. It can be depressing and dark. It can be frustrating and infuriating. It can be severely ‘unfair’ and unjust. This world literally has a curse upon it. And we are not immune to its effects and atmosphere. I’ve come to find there is only ONE hope. His name is Jesus Christ. It is in deep intimate relationship with Him that a person finds purpose, identity, hope, and inspiration. He becomes our ALL IN ALL. This is the path — to spiritual maturity, wisdom, and eventually… joy. First we learn the ‘What’ then we learn the ‘Why’ then we learn the ‘Whom’. Eventually in maturity we learn to walk with Him, listen to Him, and grow in Him. But He is ever patient, loving and merciful, and will meet you wherever you are on your path. But be sure of this — He doesn’t want you to stay there, He wants you to walk WITH Him and grow in spiritual wisdom and agape love.
Our minds are a vast battleground — and much of our feelings and emotions can stem from what happens on that battleground. Our spiritual armor is needed (Ephesians 6:10-20) to make it through these extremely intense battles in our minds and hearts. We need His instructions (by the Holy Spirit) to know how to fight and utilize correctly our armor and sword. “Bringing every thought captive to Christ.” Means the warfare in the mind is crucial. That thoughts can come from other sources than ourselves, and we need the Spirit of God to tell us what is true or not. So that our spirit can align properly with Him, and we CHOOSE His ways and thoughts over our own.
This is the challenge when we are severely beaten down. In our lowest state we still can cry out to Him … “HELP ME!” There is no shame to ask that over and over, moment by moment. I’ve certainly been there many times.
He truly wants to heal the brokenhearted.
