Body Soul Spirit

Abstain from every form of evil.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24

How do I keep my body blameless or my soul or my spirit?

Is possibly the fruit of self-control from the Holy Spirit and discipline possibly a needed combination to help mature these parts of us? Maybe also we should ponder the other 8 fruit of the Holy Spirit as well?

Are you putting your body through any type of physical discipline that keeps it strong and healthy on a regularly weekly basis if not daily basis? What about discipline for you soul? Do you know how to handle and self regulate negative emotions and feelings? What about your spirit and mind? Are you able to decipher the right decisions to make? Are you able to tell the sources of all of your thoughts? Are you able to filter your thoughts before taking any actions or allowing your feelings to grab hold and spiral from certain thoughts? Are you strengthening your will? Are you doing any exercises that demands your will and choices take control of your actions before any emotions or feelings or physical cravings?

And above all … are you listening to the Holy Spirit for your needs concerning all these areas of discipline in your life? Does He give you ways out of the temptations set before you? Do you even check with Him when faced with temptations?

We cannot unplug any of these parts from us for they are all interconnected. These three parts of us must all be dealt with together if you really want to see healthy changes in your life. If you want to grow in maturity in our body, soul, and spirit — we all have to deal with all of these parts of us, and not neglecting one or the other. Do we look to the Spirit of Jesus (Holy Spirit) for guidance in these areas of our lives? Do we ask Him any questions about what we should be doing for maintenance of these parts of us?

What should I be eating? How much? What should I not be eating or drinking? What should I be reading, listening to, and watching? What should I stop reading, listening to, and watching? What disciplines do I need to do on a regular basis? Do I need to take up a discipline of gratefulness …for my soul’s health? Do I need to take up a discipline of fasting for my spirit and body’s sake? Do I need to take up a discipline of learning of subjects that the Holy Spirit is highlighting? Do I need to learn how to hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit better, with more clarity?

We are made in His image — and we too are a ‘three-part’ being, which I believe is more than just the physical likeness. How do we navigate these ‘unknown’ parts of us called the soul and spirit? Have you ever asked Him? Do you go to Him when you aren’t in an urgent need or crisis? Have you learned that He is the best Source of truth and guidance for your life. Does He use the scriptures plus His specific teaching to you personally? Have you learned conversational prayer with Him?

How do we keep ourselves blameless? Keep walking and listening to Him. Follow Him. Be in His ‘yoke’ with Him. Go where He tells you to go. Listen to His Spirit’s instructions. Learn to obey Him quickly. Learn to confess and repent quickly when He points out certain things to you. Keep your ‘heart’ posture always pointed at being with Him at all times.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8
