The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous. Psalms 146:7-8
Are we blind because of our iniquities? Are we blind because of our stubbornness, pride, fear, resentfulness towards God and others, and entitlement? Are we blind because we refuse to listen to the truth? Are we blind because we have believed lies? And because of our state of mind and our choices has God given us over to a blindness?
And He said, “Go, and say to this people:
“‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
Make the heart of this people dull,
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
Then I said, “How long, O Lord?”
And He said:
“Until cities lie waste
without inhabitant,
and houses without people,
and the land is a desolate waste, …” Isaiah 6:9-11 (also see John 12:40)
But there is redemption for those who choose to repent and turn back to God. (Isaiah 42:16)
It my personal opinion that there are many now who are blind because of choices they have made. Many have friends who are currently ‘blind’ to the spiritual war raging around them. My heart is heavy thinking about them. And I pray for them, that the Lord would give them the choice to ‘see’ the truth. I must admit I am still blind in many areas unless the Lord reveals the truth to me in those areas. Truth like the lies I may have believed. Truth like the iniquity still within my character that needs His surgery to remove it. Most of us would be overcome for the Lord to show us the real current state of our souls all at once, as we all still have so far to go. In His mercy He deals with us as we are willing and able. How willing are you to climb onto His surgery table? Are you able to accept the truth about the things He wants to change in your life?
Our goal should be to be humble enough to hear the Truth when the Holy Spirit delivers it to us. Our goal should be humble enough to not be critical or resentful of others as we ourselves may still have a ‘plank in our own eye’.
Spiritual blindness has become an epidemic across this country.
For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. Revelation 3:17
Are you asking Jesus for ‘eye salve’? (Revelation 3:18)
How do you avoid believing the lies? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth to you. Then genuinely LISTEN for His answers.
