When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. Psalms 56:3
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27:1
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? Psalms 56:4
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” Matthew 14:27
Being afraid, nervous, unsettled, or anxious are normal human feelings. But these feelings are not from the Spirit of God, but from within your current ‘earth’ suit. If you are His then you have access to the Spirit of God.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:6-7
Why is the fruit of the Spirit so important in our lives? (Galatians 5:22-23) It is for our will and choice to choose and agree with His work and instruction in our lives.
Begin saying .., “I choose you Holy Spirit. I choose to listen to You. I choose to believe You. I choose to obey You.” Then listen to what He has to say to you.
Through Him we will experience His power, the love of Christ, and gain control of our own spirit, soul, and body to do what He asks us to do. The Holy Spirit gives us wisdom to ponder and we need to ask for understanding of that wisdom (which often comes through a scripture verse or passage from the Bible that He brings to your mind). We need to grow in this relationship and conversation with Him so that we can be more attentive and agreeable with His direction and instruction. Obviously the Holy Spirit will shine His light on your sin and you will need to confess and repent, as this can be a very regular occurrence and conversation He has with you. But He wants to have a relationship with you far beyond that conviction relationship and conversation. He wants to teach you, guide you, and counsel you. The Holy Spirit wants to use you for His glory and purposes here on this earth and time. He wants to speak ‘through’ you with His ‘Word(s)’ to encourage, build up, and introduce Jesus to many people.
When you are afraid, remind yourself Who actually indwells you and guides you. Immediately begin the conversation with Him in your mind. Allow Him to give you confidence in your relationship with Him, and begin to move forward in the direction He wants you to go.
Listen to Him.
“You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:9-10
