Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53
Where time meets the eternal is coming for everyone. Some might say it is death… where there is that scripture that implicates that …
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him. Hebrews 9:27-28
But the issue isn’t that we concentrate on that promised ‘event’ but that we be ready for it — at any moment, for no one knows how many days or moments they have left. Jesus expressed this need to be ready through His parable of the ten virgins and the parable of the ten talents in Matthew 25. So many are concerned with when the actual ‘events’ will take place that they forget to be in the present moment with Him. If Jesus had disclosed when this event will exactly take place — so many would be distracted with their task at hand. In fact, Jesus speaks to this very human trait in His parables…
But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. Luke 12:45-48
What has Jesus given you? What are you responsible for? What has the Holy Spirit asked you to do? Are you in the present with Him? Are you listening? Are you asking Him questions?
As the ‘day’ draws near, which is an absolute certainty, in fact you are at the very least one day closer, shouldn’t we about our ‘calling’? What are we ‘called’ to do? First …there is the foremost calling …
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Did Jesus say that only to those who are “professional” ministers? Or maybe you think that was only for His disciples or apostles? We ALL have a part in this. We are ALL members of the same Body. Where are you in the discipling process? Even though you may be going through the process currently — you yourself should also be discipling others. For He is the Teacher more than we should be as expressed in John 14:26. Our ‘instruction’ as a ‘teacher’ should be to continually point others to the ultimate Teacher – the Holy Spirit … which Jesus so freely gives to those that ask. Have you ever thought of leading a small group in the pursuit of knowing Him deeper? Ask Him who you are to ‘talk to’ today. Be ready at any moment.
For none of us knows if, “Is this the day I meet Him in eternity?!”
