Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15
Man is like a breath;
his days are like a passing shadow. Psalms 144:4
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:1-3
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:54-55
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18
The enemies of God want to deceive the human race to tell them them they’re only mortal and death is their final end. Yet — the scriptures paint a different picture. The enemies of God want to have the human race deny their non-physical portion of themselves. For we have been made by God with a soul and spirit that are housed by a physical body. When the body dies — the soul and spirit continue.
..then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Genesis 2:7
One of the biggest issues we all face is the fact that our physical body will die. But Jesus tells us not to fear that.
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9:27
None of us know the day of our ‘appointment’. Only God knows.
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:16-21
What brings real contentment? Riches and things won’t. I ponder that real contentment comes from the level of God’s love residing within you. Do you have so much of God’s love in you that every scrap of the fear of death no longer resides within you? Do you have so much of God’s love residing within you — that the future does not scare you? Where does your security lie? Is it in a fat bank account? Who is your real Source of security?
What does Jesus say? Read Luke 12:22-34
When your world comes crashing down around you — what will you do? What is your foundation?
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
