Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! Psalms 95:6
This title is used specifically here alone in this verse in the scriptures. The Hebrew word ‘o’seenu’ is used in many forms to mean ‘to produce, make’. Usually a verb in the present tense. It can be used in both masculine and feminine forms. Hebrew is very specific as almost all words define the masculine or feminine.
Obviously here David is expressing his worship of his Creator and acknowledging his very being was made by God. David is taking a humble place (the act of kneeling and bowing down) before God. In verse 7 he personalizes it.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts, Psalms 95:7-8
Can we not acknowledge that we have our breath and heartbeat because of our Maker? By His grace and goodness we have life? Are we not His Creation in His created place?
For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. Isaiah 54:5
Here the word is ‘o’say’ik’ a derivative of the same word (asah) used in Psalm 95:6. And we see the same language and metaphor of the type of relationship God wants with all His people, which is the closest and most intimate of ALL relationships (Marriage). This verse reminds me of what our Lord did with Adam and making Eve from a piece of Adam very close to his heart. We ARE His created heart. He wants to protect us, and take care of us. His love for us is beyond measure.
David’s heart wants the people not to rebel against the Voice of the Lord. (Verse 8) In the new covenant it is the same as the Voice of the Holy Spirit within us. How many times do we dismiss that ‘still small Voice’? Have we learned to listen closely when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us? Do we stop to listen …and give Him ALL of our attention?
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:12
God usually speaks to us like we are His most beloved, cherished, lover, and friend. Do you speak to Him the same way? Do you come to Him in a heart of reverence and love? Do you come to Him in humility and respect?
