itching ears … and myths.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 1 Timothy 4:1-4

Never has this been more fulfilled. With the inception of the internet — the myriad of voices has grown to staggering proportions. Social media and streaming platforms now allow anyone to broadcast to the world their opinions. Certainly many …to get greater exposure they literally will say or do the most shocking statements or actions just to get ‘clicks’. Pornography has also exploded in this digital world just like the ‘sex’ era of the sixties with the inception of birth control. Porn is now a click away and has permeated almost every corner of the digital world. People are literally being led down of path of destruction and death. Lying has become so common place within our government authorities that it is now just expected but never punished. Hypocrisy is worn as a badge of honor. Evil has been let loose and no one seems to care. They’re too busy in their ‘digital worlds’. They’re too busy chasing money and power.

Certainly the Church who USE to have the truth and the light would have been preaching and teaching on these subjects and calling out certain authorities who are evil. But evil has permeated the Church walls now — and compromise, and a searing of the conscience to the point that they are no longer able to discern or hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit. Money, influence, and power have become the desired values within the religious institution of most Churches. Those that are the most culturally ‘sensitive’ and progressive are the ones who get ‘quoted’ in the the newspapers and voices of the MSM.

What do you read consistently? Who do you listen to consistently? What kind of music are you feeding off of? Who are your closest friends, and what is the main topics when you get together?

What if the ‘boat’ was about to go over a massive waterfall and you were the only one who knew — would anyone else believe you? What should be our message to those in danger, especially spiritual danger?

In the above scripture what does it mean to “turn away from listening to the truth and and wander off into myths”?

“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,…. The solid truths of the Gospel, not being able to bear the hearing of them:  and shall be turned unto fables; things idle, trifling, useless, and, unprofitable; and which are no better than old wives’ fables; some respect may be had either to Jewish fables, or to the miraculous mythologies of the Gentiles, or of the Gnostics, and others: but in general, it includes everything that is vain, empty, and senseless; and this is to be considered as a just judgment upon them; that since they like not to retain the knowledge of the truth, but turn away their ears from it, God gives them up to a reprobate mind, a mind void of sense and judgment, to attend to things idle and fabulous.” From: Gill’s Exposition of the entire Bible commentary

“And shall be turned unto fables; delighting to hear fables, any idle stories, or impertinent discourses, provided they touch not their lusts.”  From: Matthew Poole’s Commentary

I like Matthew Poole’s insight that stories that never show the downside of people’s lusts are what have become popular. That’s obvious by the popular stories / movies being told and shown today.

Do you see any institutional Church leaders rebuking and reproving anything? The mantra is to ALWAYS stay positive. Never talk about difficult things. Don’t be a negative Nelly. Are we even able to hear the rebuke from the Holy Spirit within us? Do we ever feel any conviction in our souls?

When the truth is spoken now — evil ..dog piles it. Censors it. Blames it. Dismisses it. And calls the person who said it … a racist. Doesn’t matter who said it — they will meet severe opposition. There are examples everywhere everyday in the news.

I see this plainly everywhere .. does anyone else?
